Guys, I had a 1199S ABS and single chrashed it last year after 5 months of driving. My dealer gave me the choice. New 2013 without adding any Euro or rebuilt it. Damage was 10000 Euro. I chose to order a new 2013 1199S. In November the 1199R showed up which is 8000 Euro more expensive then an S ABS.

I made the arrangement with my dealer that all the DP parts that were on my S would come new on my 2013 S. Nearly all the DP carbon parts, high screen, race seat and full exhaust. My dealer sold my old S with all the parts so I will get all new goodies.

I told my dealer that I would like getting an R and if so he doesn't have to buy all the parts and spend labor to assemble them. That way I maybe can get an R for just 4K or max 5K extra above the S.

What would you do?

Hey Patrick, good to see you back.

Since you'll be spending on so many of the DP parts, may as well get the R.

Also further justifies the "wait", if you know what I mean, as I'm sure you've thought about the merits of picking up an S replacement sooner.

Then 8 becomes 12. I couldn't justify another 12K over my base today. That would be pretty much if the R was available a year ago, it would have been 12K more. The special Ducatis do a horrible job compared to base of retaining value or I would have got the Tri back then. Why didn't you?

But, if money isn't an object, of course the R. But don't forget, it means changing your forum handle! :)

I crashed the end of September and just a month before storing it in the garage next to her Shelby friends. So during waiting I could save some money. I was thinking by myself another 5K is do-able and then keep the R for a long time or maybe forever. But you know there will be another R someday. Maybe a V4.

The fact is my S had about 4-5K in extra's. The full exhaust alone was nearly 3K. Well, you all know how fast it adds up. The R has nearly all the goodies installed. It was just doing the math in my favor. Ha, ha. But having an R for half the extra money above the S is tempting. I will have an R for the price of a Tricolore. ;)

Its all what you like, with the mods I have done I was not too far off from the R, oh well. If you are buying the R for value DON'T. I have never made out selling an R, and have had a couple of them. The S is so awesome now why bother, The R now is more of a collectors bike, or wow factor. If you want a bike that could be of any value get a used Tri. The newer bikes are so advanced no need for an R, there is nothing I can do on that R that I can't do on my S at my level, track or street, and there is no Starbucks near me.

Starbucks? Oh, to show off! I am new to Ducati, but I researched used 1098/1198's like crazy before the Pani came out, then I just ordered it. But am I wrong, or isn't this the most subtle R ever? I am thinking Ducati just did it as they persoanlly needed those mods to the engine/suspension and wanted the public to pay for it.

Just kidding with the starbucks comment.. The new R is awesome, just I expected more. I would have rather it be more expensive like the 1098R and offer more. Like I said after adding carbon, and a full exhaust my S is almost the same cost as an R. Everyone has their own reason for an R, mine was I just always wanted one, got one, and then I got the bug, where I could only buy an R or wait for one. The 1199 has so much too offer, I dont find myself drooling over it as I did past bikes. I sold my 999r and took a beating, so I might still be a little sore, wait minute I just looked at my 1199s, nevermind.

Yes, Ducati needed the Ti Con Rods for FIM rules on homologated parts..

2.4.8.9 Connecting rods
"¢ For 1000cc 3 & 4 cylinders
Connecting rods may be altered or replaced from those fitted to the homologated
motorcycle. Carbon composite or carbon fibre materials are not allowed if not
used in the homologated motorcycle.
"¢ For 1200cc 2 cylinders
Connecting rods must remain as homologated. Polishing and lightening is not
allowed.

Once the OTC price for all the DP accessories and Termi exhaust included with the R is subtracted - a ~$2K extra for Ti Cons rods and the lightened flywheel is in no way having "the public pay for it".

Go for the "R" for an extra 4k or 5K.....I would choose that route!

You are totally right. I don't buy it for value cause I know the write off is pretty big on these bikes. I had an 1198S and wrote off 8K in 1,5 years because I wanted the Panigale.

If you keep an R for 15-20 years then you will notice the big difference in values, because it has more exclusivity. I will keep it like the Shelbys. The Terlingua is one of 38 made.

ARe you suRe that you haven't made youR decision yet.

Would be Rude not to :p

Hey XBox, where is the Med? Where are you from? Cause we probably are closer to each other then our US friends. I notice that on responses on topics as they wake up 6-9 hrs later then me.
