Rode them back to back, same time, same roads....personally the Panigale wins in every area except low end torque. My buddies 1198s is full Termi, mapped, carbon wheels, etc, etc. It blows the Pani away In low end torque (it also has 14 front sprocket.) That will be the first mod for mine, the gears are way to tall and only exaggerates the need to rev this thing. But at 8k, stand by! This thing is a rocket! It handles amazing (even though the back end was a little nervous over bumps due to being in "F" position.) The brakes are the best I've ever used and the added comfort is just enough to make it much more comfortable than the older bike for me.

Personally, I love it! It's fast, super smooth, quick shifter is awesome, brakes amazing, handling is so light and nimble.

My buddy is still on the fence due to the difference in torque and I get it but to me that's nothing a gear change and a little adjusting to wont fix. The bike really is a new level of refinement! And coming off my 1098 streetfighter which is a loud, angry, rude SOB, the Pani is amazingly composed........

The only thing left to decide now is Pani S or Tricolore? :p

good write up there bud,id go for the tri if i was you, cause it looks .... hot. Id be keen to hear someones thoughts on the gearing change, would be my first mod, hopefully someone might try it soon. Its going to be interesting to see how this bike develops.
cheers burty.

so, I just talked to my salesman who said I was riding the bike in sport mode and the torque delivery is much softer in sport than in race. So, I'll be heading back with the same buddy tomorrow for round two, in race mode!

look forward to hearing your thoughts srleadjb, should be a noticeable difference, should see if he would change the linkage for you as well. let us know how you go.
cheers burty.

In terms of power deliverey the difference between sport and race comes from the 195-hi and 195-lo power modes. As far as i can tell this deosn't change the motor other than making the throttle response much sharper. I personally prefer this and have changed Sport to 195-hi, but left all the other sport setting at stock. I've never ridden the 1098/1199, but I suspect this will make the 1199 feel more like earlier Ducatis. You'll still need to rev more to get at the power/torque though, the superquadro makes its power about 1500 rpm higher than the 1098/1198.

I have a 1098r and also just purchased a 1199s tricolore.

Comparing the two.

Firstly the 1098r feels more powerful from the off.
Pure raw power which sometimes you can't exploit full throttle on the road.

The 1199 felt down on power especially below 7.5k, initially I thought I had made a mistake in purchasing the tric.
However it's easier to ride and like the handling.

Was thinking about selling the 1098r after the 1199 arrived as I thought they would be too similar.

The bikes are totally different to ride.

To compare them to cars the 1098 is like a TVR raw power(muscle car for the USA;0)).

The 1199 is like a BMW with all the toys to help you a bit more civilised, each bike is unique.

Love the panigale, however I have a bigger smile coming off the 1098r.

I'm in a lucky position where the wife has said I can keep both
