1299 S on the floor at Fraser's Ducati City (Melbourne) today. It's 1 of the first 2 they have received into the shop - the other is still crated. Evidently, the 1 on the floor, and in this photo, is allocated to me. I take her home next week. :)

While I was there a bloke walked in, had a look at my S, had a brief conversation with me, then sat down with the salesman and ordered a 15 R. There's $47,000. Then he proceeded to order several thousand bucks of extra go-fast stuff. The strange part is that he doesn't even have a bike licence - he's just going to put the thing on display!

Lightning, have you got a telephone number I can call please - I am in Perth.

The S allocated to me arrived last night. I am so being looked after by me dealer, they really sympathise with my position (first world problems right) - They have my 14R on the shop floor for sale, I am going to be given the opportunity to ride the 1299S (albeit in stock form without the full Akra EVO) back to back with my 14R (with full Termi) to see the differences.

I am still so undecided, I have analysed your graphs to death and I think it is graphs 2 to 4 that make me really concerned that the 15R is in fact going to be a better street bike than the 1299S because of the area under the curve seems to be better with the 15R at all RPMs except below about 6,000 rpm

Lightning, is yours parked in the middle near the entrance? Just drove passed and drooled.... missus said "don't even think about it" lol

Yep, that's her. Ain't she purdy? Feel free to drool Kev - just keep your distance - I don't want to be exchanging any fluids with you. ;)

Tell someone to buy mine then and you can watch me order my new R as well.
Might go check your bike out tomorrow.

When do you take delivery of it?

Not sure exactly SP. Definitely before the end of the week. Frasers are obviously keen to keep it there on display a while, and I'm busy until Thursday anyway. Had any nibbles for yours?

Get my base next week . Have exhaust ready track fairings and suspension on the way .

Exciting times wilkson. You still swapping the Akra from your R to the 1299? I'm still deciding what to do ref exhaust.

So, picked up the bike last Friday. She's got 800 kms on her as of today. Some random thoughts on the perennials of this forum:
Heat . . . meh. Yeah, it can get a bit warm if you're not moving, but it doesn't bother me - I once had a Triumph 955i that left me stranded in Mt. Beauty when the wiring harness literally melted into a ball of goo. Now, thayt was a problem.
Exhaust . . . I got the Akra/DP full system Evo with the bike, but it's not installed yet. Actually, I had my first run in with Frasers a day or two before picking up the bike. I'd asked for a price on the Akra for supply only and they trotted back with the BS about voiding my warranty if they didn't do the fitting. They backed off when I challenged them, but it still annoys me that they run this line when they must know the facts of the matter full well.
Surging . . . I've not ridden an 1199 for comparison so I don't know if the 1299 surging is any better or worse, but it is certainly there between 4-5,000 at part throttle. You can ride around it most of the time, but it is my only real disappointment with the bike so far. Ii strongly suspect it will still be there with the Akra and up map, so I've decided to go down the Tuneboy route to fix this (and they have a sale on until 31 May).
UpDown Shift . . . I don't know how I ever lived without it. It's fun. It's fast. It's probably safer.

It's winter, the heat of my 14R is non existent in winter, just wait until the weather heats up. ;)

Surging it's there on the 1199 and in first you cant cruise at 40kmph put it that way, you need to clutch it on and off to keep it smooth or use second, same in second at 70kmph. But they are superbikes meant to be ridden flat out so it comes with the nature of the beast. How is the 1299 in comparison, pretty much the same?

Tuneboy to be honest I've heard a lot of bad things, I'd go a rapidbike module.

Winter. Yeah. Good point . . . well made. Still, so long as the heat doesn't damage the bike, then I don't think I'll be fussed.

I've not ridden an 1199, so I can't really compare surging. It's there on the 1299 at part throttle at 4-5,000 RPM; so that works out close to the speed/gear combos you mentioned. The surging isn't noticeable between 5-6,000 but it reappears from 6-6,500. I've tried Modes Wet, Sport and Race (Engine Low, Med and High), and it's always there. It's not a massive problem - just an annoyance really - though I find myself having to concentrate a bit extra on throttle control esp if you're in Race/High as the jerking can cause a bit of feedback. I don't feel the need to clutch in, so maybe it's not as bad as the 1199?

Yeah, I've heard good and bad on Tuneboy too. I'm gonna give it a go though.

Have they got a 1299 specific tune file for the tuneboy yet?

Yeah Steve, good question. I'll be able to tell you definitively when mine arrives (ordered it yesterday during the discount period). I'm pretty sure that they have fuel maps for the 1299 (& 1299s) and '15R. I presume that means that they've simply filled in the missing fuel from the lean/EPA region of the standard fuel maps. They don't have any trim files yet though, as they haven't had any on their dyno yet. So, for the moment you'd have to create your own with a dyno tune session, or work with wideband O2 readings/tuning on the road. I'll be visiting the dyno in the next month or so. I'm told the cruise works on the 1299 (& 1299S) and '15R.

Nice one, look forward to your feedback.

I've got the DP Akro + DP up map to install, gonna try that out first,

1299 S is a blast so far, enjoy :)

I agree. My first slipper clutch too. So with or with out the clutch, it's seamless. Probably the best transmission package I've ever had.

The tuneboy ecu itself is not bad, it is the lack of custom/aftersale services which is the problem for some.

My tuner loves tuneboy and we where able to maximum the gains aswell improve ride-ability 100% on my 1199.

Uploading a pre-design map will always be a band-aid fix, if you can find a tuner to do a custom tune you will get alot better results :)
