First question that popped into my head when I saw the lineup. I know one of these will end up on my late xmas list, but if you're a road and track rider which one would you choose? Aaand go:

Dedicated racer, 1199R. Track/Street split, 1299S or Base.

The R is going to be NUTS, basically a SuperLeggera without the very expensive carbon stuff on it, but very close on the engine. Homologation bike for World SBK next year. It's going to be more bike than most people can really use, most will probably be faster around the track on the 1299 with more torque at lower RPM's, it will take a top-level rider to extract performance from the R. Not that you shouldn't have it if you want it of course!

Kind-of what I'm wondering too...track only for me-

Did the mid-range get addressed on the new R?

Haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing yet....

My 899 purchase in December just got axed. Putting a deposit down on the new R, race my current bike next year and sell it at the end of the year and get the 899 then. Jarel, what suspension will the R have, standard Ohlins?

Yes, conventional Ohlins with no electronics so it's race-legal in every series.

R sounds perfect...but looks like torque dip still there?

Oh...was that Steve Jobs up there?

What, at 5000 RPM? No one is ever at 5000 RPM on the track, this is a 7000-12,500 racing engine! Look at the power in the last 3000 RPM (9500-12,500) that's what they need to compete in WSBK. And that's still the power curve with the stock ehxuast, it will have more through the middle with the full race exhaust and map, just like the SL does.

WSBK and WSTK are going to be very entertaining to watch next season.

I guess I am at maintenance through some corners...so that initial drive out I do notice it....

Per your posts with the SL at the track..." In bone stock form, there is ... NO ... power below 7000 RPM"...the full race exhaust/map did away with that didn't it?

The semi-active suspension is a strike against the S for me. R sounds brilliant.

Yeah, but only to a degree, there still isn't going to be rambunctious torque at 5,000 RPM on this engine no matter the exhaust and map. Too short stroke for that, the benefit is the top-end power. If you're at 5,000 rpm on corner exit on a Panigale you need to shift down a gear. 7,000 rpm, yeah, that's possible in some corners, but ideally you'll be at 7500-8000, and on the R that leaves you 5000 rpm usable powerband which is pretty good.
