ended up buying a damaged 1199 and now need a un damaged engine if anybody can help.

If you keep an eye out you can normally find them on Ebay. Just buy from a reputable seller. That will be your least expensive route. What's wrong with the current engine?

Sounds like it. Ducati's are more complicated then most and not easy bikes to repair or replace. I've swapped motors and am rebuilding one right now but they are complicated and require a significant amount of special tools to do it right.

I've never seen that on a Ducati motor and not sure how he would say this without tearing the motor apart..?

Tear down isn’t necessary. Pull a spark plug and rotate the crank. If you don’t see a pistons going up and down, you could have a broken rod, pin or piston skirt.

Have you seen a broken rod in an 1199? I would think many other items would fail before the rod like bearings, rings, etc.?

Nope, never seen one, my comment was only to say that’s it’s possible to detect a broken component in the rod assembly without a tear down.
