2014 Daytona Bike Week Pics, Now with Daytona Trackside Snaps!

So I don't have anything crazy after the first weekend. Seems a bit less crowded than last year, but Bike Week has actually been in continual decline numbers-wise since the early 2000's when 300,000+ actually descended upon the town. I'll concentrate on better pictures this week and will be taking photos at the races with telephoto equipment and updating on this thread. Please add your Daytona experience pictures for all to enjoy.

What has 2 thumbs and the coolest bike parked on Main Street? This guy:D

I really, really, want this bike. Or a Rivale. I can't decide so good thing I don't have the cash right now!

Maybe it's the age thing, but after owning almost nothing but sportbikes for the last 24 years, I find myself strangely attracted to the design of the re-born Indian, it has so many cool details up close:

My son is still attracted to sparkly paint. He'll learn soon enough...

That dragster is sweet. Did you he a chance to do any test rides? I test rode the fz-09...I don't like the looks but that thing is FUN!

Pictures from the track on Thursday - American Superbike and Daytona Sportbike practice sessions:

Barrett Long is the sole Ducati 1199 in the Superbike class since Jake Holden and Jarel's Ducati Omaha team couldn't make it:

Barrett Long is also holding the Ducati flag in Daytona Sportbike riding an 848 Evo:

The man, the legend, the 3-time Superbike Champ Josh Hayes:

Jason Disalvo and Garrett Gerloff duking it out on the banking.

Poor Elena Myers crashed out early in the Daytona Sportbike Practice:

Chris Fillmore and the good looking KTM RC8R:

Great pics. Will you be there tomorrow? I parked next to a Panigale in the infield. Was that yours? It was gone when I left.

I wasn't there today, those pics were from yesterday. Here's a pic of my bike if you see it tomorrow. Text me at 919-434-95 three three. Jeff

Nice pictures JeffD. Keep em coming. That 800 Dragster is a pretty cool bike. It reminds me of the KTM 1290 Superduke which I think is an awesome bike as well.

Poor Barrett Long. His 1199 AMA Superbike was simply not competitive. He was interviewed trackside on the grid before the race and the announcer asked "How is your new Ducati 1199 against the rest of the field?" to which he replied "Well, it's kinda slow. It's a new bike and pretty stock, and we didn't finish putting it together." He qualified dead last and was a fair bit back after on a few laps. The cool thing was that he did play to the crowd. As he passed the grandstands I was in, he would look to the crowd, and just started pulling wheelies for us - every time he went by. Everybody loved it and it was quite entertaining with everyone cheering him on. Then, in the Daytona 200, I saw him go by on the sighting lap on his 848 Evo race bike. After about 3 laps or so, just when I was starting to look for him to take pictures, he disappeared. I don't know if he crashed or had a mechanical, but he wasn't there anymore. Bummer.

The 2nd Superbike race was pretty good at the front with the factory Suzukis going at it with the factory Yamahas.

That was until Josh Hayes' R1 motor expired (again!)

Beaubier managed to hold off both Hayden and Cardenas for the win - which is extremely impressive

Ducati had brought demo bikes to Daytona Ducati and I rode a Diavel, Multistrada, Hypermotard, Monster 1100 Evo and 848 Streetfighter. I liked the 848 SF best but am probably still going to go with the MV Agusta Brutale Dragster 800 as a streetbike later this year.

Hot Ducati Demo Booth sign-up girls:

The Ducati NA rep, Chris, had this awesome Ducati Sport 1000S:

Main Street was the usual:

It's nice to see the nuns come out of the convent to participate:

WTF? :D

My 1199 silently bears witness to the Pirate parade while one of the few with taste gives her a look:

Awesome photos for sure.

Beaubier is the future of AMA for maybe 2-3 more years. He has a very promising career n will more than likely take his career on a global scale with WSBK. That's my prediction :)

If there will be an AMA road racing class after this year...

I agree he's the best shot at being the next great American talent, but if he does get his chance, I hope he doesn't burn out like Ben Spies did.

so now that bike week is over, where do we go next? anywhere cool in the southeast US?

In a little over 5 weeks, the 18th Leesburg Bikefest (West Central Florida) is here: Leesburg Bikefest - 18th Annual Leesburg Bikefest
A bit like a smaller Daytona. It's usually pretty hot already, which is the only downside to me. I love the weather right now.

Although not an event per se, the Smoky Mountains will get cleaned up by some April rains and will be open season for some of the best corner-carving anywhere. If you haven't been, you need to go. Better than any bike event, IMHO. And there's even plans on here for a mid-summer Panigale meet up there.

Is Barret running 1198s wheels on his 1199? I wonder if their lighter then the 1199s wheels.

Not sure because I didn't see the bike up close, but from the pictures they look like the OZ Cattiva magnesium wheels, which would be more appropriate for a race bike. Don't know for sure.

Well...if your interest is in riding an not just hanging out at the local bar/starbucks, you could check these out -

A lot of fun and lots of riding last October on some of the best M/C roads in the world. May 14 - 18.

You could also come to the US Desmo spring meet

I've been going to these off and on the past 15 years or so. US Desmo always puts on a great weekend. As with the Panigale rally, be prepared to ride - it's not just about sitting around. More great roads.

You could also make the Ducati.ms rally held every spring in Fontana (i.e. "Deals Gap", i.e. "The Dragon").
2014 EAST COAST DUCATI.MS MEETUP (ECM V): MAY 7-11TH 2014 *official thread* - Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum
Great roads. Great rally. Same area as the Panigale rally the following weekend. Lots of people to meet/greet. Lots of people to ride with. Emphasis is on riding (though the Ducati.ms crowd definitely emphasizes partying in the evenings.

I realize you Florida Flatlanders have trouble with the concept of riding your 1199's further than the nearest Starbucks. But these three events (on sequential weekends in May) can put you on some of the best riding roads in the world, with fellow Ducati fans, and are very Ducati-centric.

Good people. Great riding. And great bikes.

JEFFD Nice pictures!!!! would have loved to go but still busy up here in MA plowing snow... hopefully weather turns by april to get riding again!
