Am i the only one who is interpreting this this way? According to ducati's website the 1299S "shows its technologically advanced nature with a bright, efficient, and stylish full-LED front headlight, along with LED brakelight, turn signals, and number plate light. "

the Panigale R however appears to have only LED rear, signals, and running lights, but not the actual main lamp itself...is this to save weight?

"Another detail that gives the Panigale its total racing look is the twin headlamp at front designed to be an integral part of the front air scoops, with integrated LED positioning lights. The double LED lights at rear harmoniously wrap around the air vents in the seat-tail assembly and, when turned on, create an alluring effect of signalling lights enhanced by stop lights. LED technology is also been used for the front and rear turn indicators as well as the number plate light."

seems to make very little sense that the new R wouldnt be full LED wtf

I'd kinda like to know the same thing. It definitely doesn't point out "full LED lighting" like the specs for the S

From Ducati's website on the new R:

Minimum weight solutions
-3.5kg
A full 2 kg reduction in weight thanks to the lithium-ion battery. 0.5 kg less due to classic headlamp and LED position lights. Another kilogram less with the 9.1 MP Bosch ECU for cornering ABS.

You guys may be right. There may be no LED headlights on the 2015 R.

id be PISSED if i knew i was shelling out 34k for the bike and was going to have to spend another 500+ on an LED headlight that the lesser model S comes with... god bless my 2014 "R"

This new bike is clearly focused at racing. No new electronic adaptive suspension, no LED headlights, no rear seat or passenger pegs. This bike honestly feels more R like than the 13/14 model did. If you want a hard-core purpose built bike, this is closer then last year's bike.

It's a race bike. Way moreso than the prior 1199R. This is not a bike you'd want to use for a daily-rider, it's got short-skirt 2-ring racing pistons in it, and the maintenance schedule is going to be more intensive for sure, I suspect it will be the same as the SL. This one is a true "homologation special" like the good 'ole days. If you want to fret over it not being streety-enough, you're going in a different direction than the engineers were, they were thinking about how to win WSBK next year. They consider the 1299S to be the premium street & track bike.

i get that this is the real deal and meant to be raced....but there are loads of people who will be buying the bike to be ridden on the street.... its street legal and comes in street trim....and for someone tracking it out the headlight weight wouldnt matter anyways....

im shocked

It's only in street-legal trim so they can sell it, not because their design goal was to make it the best street bike it could be. With the homologation rules it has to be a street-legal bike. I'm not saying you don't have the right to be disappointed that you're not getting what YOU want from an R, but just pointing out what the design goal was for the engineers, which differs from what you want. Why don't you want a 1299S? That's going to be a way better street bike and will have the sweet active Ohlins suspension on it!

I think its a poor decision on Ducatis side....shows a distinct lack of understanding of their consumer base ...

the same reason most people want the R, exclusivity. I havent seen Davies or Giugliano on the forum recently so im guessing none of us would be able to use the new R on the track to its potential. for those who want the bike because its ....... sweet and they can afford to buy and maintain it to ride on the street its kind of a let down. the LED vs traditional headlight has zero bearing on something if its not being kept in street trim. it has no bearing on the WSBK team or bike. and im pretty sure ducati should be worried about what WE want because we the consumer are what pays for the whole show... Ducati sells bikes so they can afford to race. You keep your customers happy. No one here would be bitching if the new R had a full LED headlight... not one person would say "well .... thats half a kilo of weight i have to physically pick up and remove from the bike when i track it out and then sell for 4x more than a non LED headlight since im keeping this as a dedicated track bike"

Exactly. My goal is to ride it on the street to get past the 600mile mark, then she is going into race form.

and what happens with the street parts? maybe you sell them and recoup as much of your 34k before fee investment as possible so you can fund the track build? and for us non racers who might buy the bike? I guess ducati shouldnt give a .... about us...hell im not even a full person because i dont race motorcycles

I havent thought about selling anything. I still have all the street parts from my Base. I'm not thinking about recouping anything. I think the bike is good to go. No need to "build" anything with the new R. Maybe new springs for my weight, switch to Bridgestone slicks and sharkskinz race plastics What else do I need? Besides, there are better aftermarkets LED kits n the market than what comes stock with the S for less money. IF, I were buying this for the street, the LED lights are the last thing I'm complaining about.

i dont care. I just want R to have LED. hell i will starve a few days and lose weight to compansate the weight of LED on R. hell with 2015 i will keep my 2014. I bet ducati gonna put LED in 2016 model after hearing 1000s of customers bitch about cheap head lights lol.

I'm already on a diet now. Back to 200lbs I come. Is that really a weight for a racer though????? LOL We need our own class.

$3000 more for less stuff. Ahhh Ducati fashion

Doesn't mean I don't want it though :).

What sucks is, once we remove our headlights they won't be worth a damn thing to resell :(

Maybe i'll be interested in your 2014 R when you decide to sale it for the new R :D
