2015 Panigale R doesnt have full LED headlight???

Again, not piling on and you're certainly free to have your opinion. But you can understand why some people don't understand you getting riled up about a headlight on a bike homologated for WSBK right?

And I agree with some of the others that looking for your self-admitted bragging rights has a very short runway when it comes to cars and bikes....like one year. Actually, by the time you get your shiny new toy in April, they'll "accidentally" leak details of the new and improved model in August and release the specs in October so you get 4-6mos of boosted self-esteem tied to a material object.

was just agreeing on op but now this thing is going out of control like wild fire.

Am i the only one who is interpreting this this way? According to ducati's website the 1299S "shows its technologically advanced nature with a bright, efficient, and stylish full-LED front headlight, along with LED brakelight, turn signals, and number plate light. "

the Panigale R however appears to have only LED rear, signals, and running lights, but not the actual main lamp itself...is this to save weight?

"Another detail that gives the Panigale its total racing look is the twin headlamp at front designed to be an integral part of the front air scoops, with integrated LED positioning lights. The double LED lights at rear harmoniously wrap around the air vents in the seat-tail assembly and, when turned on, create an alluring effect of signalling lights enhanced by stop lights. LED technology is also been used for the front and rear turn indicators as well as the number plate light."

seems to make very little sense that the new R wouldnt be full LED wtf

Well sh*t thats a warstopper.

I get where he's coming from though. I had a '14 1199 base and the standard headlights are horrible. I had planned on waiting to see what the new R was like and was going to pick that up but between no LED headlights and that stupid red stripe on the wheels, I think i'll just pick up a 2014 R. I know thats nit picky things to be a deciding factor, but I'm the one paying for it and have to live with it.

I do 90% of my riding on the street..day and night and would really prefer the better light output, and I don't want to have to be limited to the S. I just like the cosmetics of the R. If they made a S with the brushed aluminum tank and all the carbon goodies then id buy it. I just like nice things...what can I say

This is too funny.

When I filled out the survey on Ducati's site I blasted the base headlight when ever and where ever I could.

No way I would accept that on a $30k bike.

The base light wouldn't be as bad if it didn't have LED running lights.

This is a bizarre thread. A bunch of people complaining that a racebike is too much like a racebike and not enough like a street bike because they want to brag to their friends that they ride a racebike. But they dont want to buy the street/track bike which has all those features and more that help them to ride it on the street as well plus costs $5k less. Doh! :)

i dont care. I just want R to have LED. hell i will starve a few days and lose weight to compansate the weight of LED on R. hell with 2015 i will keep my 2014. I bet ducati gonna put LED in 2016 model after hearing 1000s of customers bitch about cheap head lights lol.

I don't think people who buy the R as a base for a track bike will give a flying fu*# about the headlight

u can call me poser or whatever but i ride my bike on street 99% of the time and want it to be cool and sexy cuz i paid lot of money for it. When i buy stuff like my porsche and corvette i want it to be looking cool and have all the latest stuff. R without led head light is like porshce 911 turbo with yellow cheap lights... and like white13pani said if we do modify head light they might void warranty and i dont want my R to have after market led neither.. this is deal breaker for me and gonna wait for future R with LED. and i guess this makes SL still the most desirable and sexiest.

This is too funny. I can see the Ducati head shed in a panic after reading this and out designing the 2016 R just for you. Good luck.

I understand... reason I am not buying a 899 nor a 1299... since I want the LED headlight and I want it all under warranty, that means going with a 1299S.

I just noticed your signature... so, you aren't going to buy a Ducati until September???

I will likely be looking at putting a deposit on the 'R' around then.

This thread reminds me of when a buddy and I ordered Wilson Hammers way back when. When I received mine, I was absolutely thrilled, but when he got his, he called me and said, "Dude, I just spent $300 bucks on a tennis racket and it doesn't even come with strings???!!!" I guess it is all a matter of perception and personal interests.

Can't be pulling up to Starbucks on a 1299R with halogens. What kinda peasantry is this!?! :p

i'm glad Ducati are going in this direction with the R model, for me the latest generation of the R model was a big dissappoinment as it was a slightly better S model whereas previous iterations of R models have essentially been race bikes that had a number plate on them and they have always been pigs to ride on the street but a joy to ride on the track.

With Ducati going back to their roots i honestly think the OP would be better of buying a 1299S or a current 1199R as this new R model is a track bike and that will be the target audience, of course you can ride it on the street but when you complain that the lights are bad and it gets too hot etc just be aware of what you bought.

Yes. I updated my signature. I was trying to decide between 899 or 1299S... was waiting for the details on the 1299 to come out. No brainer, with the improvements on the 1299S that is the one that I am going with.

I was ready to buy in April, when the bike hits the US dealers. Wife wants to travel to Italy (this would be our first family vacation to Europe)... so I agreed to hold off on buying the bike until my birthday (Sep). Gives us a few months to pay for the vacation before getting into the debt of the bike. Since I can't buy all this cash

Completely agree with this, and I think it's bang on Ducati's reasons for the upcoming model ranges as well.

Interesting thread on LED or not to LED.... I don't buy that Ducati chose to remove the LED for weight savings since in race trim there would be no lights. To me the only other reason not to put LED on the R was to save money. So, at that price point why not make it LED? Just my 2 cents...

LED headlights doesnt slow down nor make R less racy anyways. If ppl eat tacos or whatever the day before their track day they gonna gain a few pounds anyways and it wont effect their track time at all. and because this New R has no LED now some ppl saying its more track bike? LED makes bike less track bike and no LED makes more track bike? give me a break. ducati is just being cheap under the name of "this is track bike" excuse. they forgot many R owners who loved LED on their bike. LED doesnt make bike less tracky. remember ducati won in 2014 "with LED" on current R. with LED they couldve satisfied more customers.

Why because the headlights then don't match the running lights? Is that it? For ....'s sake.

I would like to know the percentage of track only 1199 R's vs street ridden.
