2015 Panigale R doesnt have full LED headlight???

When you click LED LIGHTNING on the ducati page it shows what I posted. All the lights are LED except the headlights. It is very misleading. Maybe they were hoping buyers read between the lines instead of being upfront about it.

I agree it's misleading a little. Not sure what LED positioning lights are?

The park setting on the ignition switch turns on the position lights.

Your last post last page spelled it out the 1199s has led headlights and the R does not.

Well if Ducati was only going to put LED headlights on either the S or R, I guess it makes sense to put them on the S since it's more geared for street use. The R is being marketed toward track riders and most of them will be ditching the headlamps once they fit track bodywork. Same with the electronic suspension.. why put them on the R if track riders are going to ditch it was well?

Yep, your correct b9009. Ahh positioning lights...I call them parking lights lol

Me too.

Eleven99 true. They obviously think its pointless on the track bike so why waste money on there end. Thats how companies keep costs down. When you build 25000 of these lets say and you save 100 bucks a pop thats 2.5 mil saved to keep the bike costs down for us and keep them making them.

But some are complaining they want the resale value of an LED when they do ditch them - that is major whining if you ask me :)

Then they should call OO to do a swap for them. If i was getting an R the non led hl wouldnt affect my decision. It was built as a racebike. Not a streetbike. The only reason it has them is the street legal wsbk rules. If that wasnt in place it wouldnt have headlights at all.

I got the LED bulbs, and am very happy with them, only $60 and 10 mins.

Exactly its a small obstacle to correct. Its not an engine component debate, its a bulb swap. Also the minor weights savings from less wires in the harness plus the other changes they made kept the racebike lighter.

thanks for the tip on where to use "an". very kind of you! Fellow ducati rider looking out for each other and i got tears in my eyes!

oh btw you have too many "that" here -->"Just disagree that it is the dealbreaker that that you allege it is."

You got me there my fellow Ducati brother.

Wow. I'm honestly shocked, given the stunning (if I do say so myself) content of the rest of the bike, that there is this debate over the LEDs.

To clear it up once and for all, the Pani R does NOT have a full LED headlight, only LED turn signals, rear light, and front positioning/parking lamps (in the headlight housing). Why was a normal headlight chosen? Because:

1. it's lighter, and
2. it allows those costs to be spent on other features that are MORE IMPORTANT to the bike's mission.

I mean jeez guys, look at the engine. This is the homologated base for WSBK competition under the new EVO rules, and it's going to be a beast. If you want a fully-loaded premium superbike, get the S. If you want a street-legal racebike, get the R. Think of it like a Porsche Turbo vs. a GT3.

Honestly though you can't go wrong either way. Including the 899, this is BY FAR the strongest lineup of superbikes Ducati has ever had. Be happy! Rejoice! Start convincing the wife your current bike is wearing out! ;):p

For the newbs here, TJ99 works for Ducati in Italy, and was heavily involved in the 1199 Superleggera, if not the project manager on that bike.

So if you want to complain to somebody about the freakin' bike not coming with LED lights - direct your ire at him.

TJ99, Thanks for clearing that up. I cannot wait to get the new R on the track. Removing the lights, mirrors and installing the the race exhaust should make this bike sub 400lbs, correct?

It will be hard to persuade my wife that we should buy another Ducati if I tell her mine is wearing out since it is less than a year old... however, I could convince her we should add the 'R' to the stable if I could get a modest discount for owning three.

I'm just saying...

but i want LED's for that price  :moan:

and also illuminated body panels, and a radio with subwhoofer.

oh, nevermind, i drifted into Goldwing territory...

Thank you!!! This is a stupid thread. And btw, LEDs do not come on the GT3 either, but are an option for people like the LED whiners on this thread :D

Damn you TJ. I wanted to see this get to 20pages. Now that you infused logic, facts, and rationale into this thread, that'll never happen!

Well, at least now we know we screwed up. Full LED headlight on the Panigale 1399 R, coming next year. Even if it means we have to ditch the carbon monocoque framebody and active aerodynamics to hit the cost target. :D:D:D:p:p:p
