2016 Aprilia RSV4 RF

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I have always liked Aprilias. If I could get another few Italians in the garage the RSV4 Factory would certainly be in there.

Same price as the R1M for the RF and not as good a bike. I was really expecting more from them this year. But they are 1k less than the Base R1 which is nuts. I guess I'll have to see how fast I pass them on the track this year lol.

I have always liked the Aprilia, but it's just too heavy.. Once you get it going, it doesn't feel too bad, but it needs to lose 30 lbs. It has a nice engine, decent ergos, but a horribly tall 1st gear that makes commuting on it a chore.

The dealer network is still sketchy; even here in the SF Bay Area, we only have a couple that are still in business.

I agree that the 2015 R1 would be a better choice, unless you are all about the engine sound and looks; then the Aprilia might be your choice.

The Aprilia, weighing around 430 lbs fully wet would be just the ticket.

Having an RSV4, I agree with 80Schil.

Other than the engine and the looks that is in the eye of the beholder, the Aprilia just seem cheaper than the 1199.

- the dash
- the cable-driven clutch lever. You think ours is heavy...
- you will miss the slimness of the Panigale
- the materials used. They have screws (can be self tappers) to secure the intake covers to the body.

Just nitpicking, but if you can only have one, especially with the upgraded electronics, I just like how the Ducati feels better.

Aprilia guys say the Panigale is a "ball roaster", uncomfortable, and expensive to maintain

yeah so tell the Aprilia guys that the RSV4 is a thigh and foot roaster, its made for midgets and just as if not more expensive than the Panigale to maintain.:p

What do they think just because the Aprilia went to 4 cylinders they think its cheap like the Japanese bikes?

They will agree

I was sold on an rsv4 until I sat on one. They are not bad but there is something I just dont like about sitting on them. I melt into a panigale like it was specifically made for me.

I agree. When I rode one, I felt like I was sitting way high up on the bike. Seemed really odd being that high up.

Dash/interface looks dated for 2015/2016 bike. The V-4 is a cool engine, though - I think it combines some of the best aspects of the V-twin and inline 4s

Imagine a 1300 cc V-4

I test rode a 2014 one and liked the V4 engine but I agree with all the comments above - the dash is outdated, dealer network is sketchy and I don't think the finish is all that good. Wouldn't mind trying one on a track though, just to see what its really like.

Thems fightin words!

Only I'm too new of an owner to really comment and mine is track only so heat shouldnt be an issue. I heard that its more of an issue with the stock exhaust.

First track day on it was a blast and it handles great!

I will say deal network does suck here but I have a local performance shop that works on it for me. I think the finish is good but not at the Ducati level.

I love the RSV4 factory my buddy has one that I ride all the time. Even though I pulled the trigger on the 1299S I still might buy the RSV4 RF when it comes out. I am used to the thigh and foot warmer and the compact ergo's for midgets but it can make you a little sore when you are not on a track only because you are on and off the saddle a lot on the track but for long canyon runs it can get a little cramped. I'm looking forward to the new RF I think with the increase in HP it will get rid of the fallout at the upper end. With the new compression ratio and more HP with its already great handling this thing will be fun!

If the dealer network was better, I would have picked up an aprilia over my current s1000rr. I've always loved the way they look.

High praise for the RF by Sam Fleming in the new RR World (June issue), but he admitted he has not ridden the 1299 or '15 S1000RR

2015 is going to be one heck of a superbike shootout

I'm 6'3" and felt better on the RSV4 than the 1199.
I liked the tall seat on the Aprilia.

Sounds stupid but the extreme slimness of the 1199 is actually a negative for people who are tall like me. We look funny on them basically.
