Exactly.. Like you said a 599???? I'd love a new 749R ish model... Also they should do a RC390/R3 competitor.. Ducati would kill that segment.

I remember all the rumors that the 899 was actually going to be a 749 WSS legal motor. Based on Ducati's groeth, they obviously know what they are doing. But the twenty guys who would have bought that bike would have loved it !
 
Yeah, but we were talking 899 I thought? 959 has no bearing on the big bikes or twins classes. I think b9009b just forgot how in the old days the 1000 twins ran with the 750 fours.

I did forget that.. Its been awhile lol

I don't get it, why the increase in displacement, I thought the point of the 899 is that it's not overwhelmingly powerful. Does any complain about lack of power on the 899?

my guess is that the 899 is high strung, like the 1199, the fix for that is add mid range, the new one will ride like a twin, rather than the weird zingy power curve it has

Strick euro emissions, up the displacement and make it lower on emissions. That's a good enough reason to do it.

Doubt it. Easiest upgrade path would be resleeve (it's only 30 cc a cylinder) and making the bore larger without altering the stroke isn't going to do much for low/mid range.
 
I've never once thought the 899 needed more power when riding my dads.

It just needs the exhaust improvements the 1299 has and then needs a SERIOUS diet because it should be lighter and more nimble than the bigger bikes, not heavier, with less power. But what would I know Ducati.

So is this legit or still speculation? It's only been out 2 years..... The 848 made it 5 I think.

Odd, this is exactly what they did for the 1299. The effect was more torque across the rev range. It would make sense since peoples' only real complaint about it in reviews was the narrow powerband.
