They are adding all the mods to my Street Fighter now.... Today the Akrpovic system and up map go on. The magnesium wheels and all the carbon fiber have been added already. The only carbon fiber part that hasn’t come in is the winglets. View attachment 30688

@Somefun Did you ride the bike before adding the parts? If so, I would be interested to get your feedback on any differences (beyond sound) that are perceptible to you after the exhaust install. Cheers

Pretty shocking but pleasant outcome. After talking to my dealer this morning and advising my intent to “go it alone” and requesting my deposit returned, he called me at 5pm to say that he found me a bike and I can collect it on Friday. Very exciting and unusual turn of events.
That’s great news congratulations! By chance do you live in California? Always looking for somebody to ride with.

beautiful, interested to hear how long the full akra takes to install on the SF, Ive heard on the Pani it can be 8-10hrs?

I picked up my StreetFighter V4S today and rode the bike for 60 miles around Miami, combined city and freeway riding. This is my first owned Ducati, however I did ride a 916 in the 1990s. I have not ridden a modern Ducati since and I bought this bike because I’ve always admired the design of Ducati’s.

As per my signature, I’ve owned numerous suoerbikes and have been riding since age six (now early 50s). My latest bike, which I still have, is a naked BMW K1300R, it has 173bhp and 101 Lb ft between 8000-9000rpm

Now onto my initial impressions of the SF 4S

Aesthetics - obviously the bike is beautiful, beauty is of course subjective but, this bike looks stunning to my eyes. I was surprised that the rear fender was so terrible and I guess the bikes designer cringed when he was told that DOT homologation requires a tow hitch style fender. Needless to say I ditched that like everyone else does. The front turn signals were not the fault of DOT and Its abysmal that incandescent bulbs are featured on a 2020 motorcycle of this caliber. Changed to LED too. I also bought the passenger seat delete and, while I had that installed in advance, when I arrived to collect the bike I was told that to reinstall the passenger seat it wasn’t just the insertion of the key under the seat, but rather tools are needed to reinstall the passenger seat, I find that really inconvenient and unusual, so I had them remove it and, since I had already paid for it, it’s languishing in a cardboard box and I doubt it will ever be used. I never know when I will have a passenger and certainly can’t plan when my GF or daughters fancy a ride, so its a shame that this aesthetically pleasing part couldn’t have been made to be fitted using the seat latch for fixation.

My first ride was in Sport mode the whole time and I haven’t investigated the software yet.

Riding position - I’m 6ft and 200 lbs, the riding position is excellent and I didn’t feel undue buffeting at the sustained 90 mph I managed on a stretch of freeway today. The bike feels ergonomically natural and comfortable. One weird aspect though is the position of the rear brake. It is unduly high and impossible to leave my foot preemptively hovering over it as I would on other bikes. I hope there’s some type of lever position adjustment, I didn’t notice it today. The seat sent my ass to sleep after less than an hour in the saddle, this hasn’t happened on any other bike...I hope it was just today and I need to get used to the bike or something...

Engine and Power - since I am running her in I only revved to 8k RPM in all gears. My BMW produces around 160hp at this rev range (173bhp @ 9250) and pulls hard, the ducati feels more like a 600 in comparison at equal revs. I was actually quite surprised how lethargic the bike was and wondered if it had inadvertently switched to a lower power mode, but after checking, it was still in sport. There was no front wheel lift at any time, which again seemed odd compared to my bmw. I can only assume that the bike has a kind of powerband? where it comes to life over 8k revs but, that isn’t exactly tractable nor akin to what I’m used to, not just with the bmw but the long list of liter bikes in my signature.

Handling - I was only on public roads but, the bike feels supremely agile and almost telepathic compared to my BMW or previous bikes. I can sense that this bike will be great fun when pushed or on the track.

Brakes - I didn’t use the rear because I couldn’t access it when needed (see above). The fronts don’t feel anything special to be honest. Maybe the pads need to bed in or something but, the bite didn’t seem very decisive and I will investigate further on a longer ride tomorrow.

Engine - I’ve never had a V4 nor even a V2, so my comparison is with a multitude of in-line 4s. I guess for that reason the engine sound and feel will take some getting used to. It certainly doesn’t sing like a straight 4, or maybe the above applies and, above 8k it comes to life?

Suspension - Nothing jumped out at me as being worth stating. The damping and spring rates seemed ok and it doesn’t really feel much different to other bikes I’ve had but, without any electronics. My BMW has electronic rear preload adjustment but the front and rear aren’t electronically damped. Either way, the SF 4S seems fine but not the massive Ohlins leap I was expecting.

Fueling - the bike feels weird at low-rev initial throttle openings or using throttle blips when pulling away. Its like its fueled incorrectly at very low rpm and seems to get bogged down, requiring a decisive twist of the wrist to emerge from the low rev problematic fueling. This made leaving lights hit and miss. I felt I had to over rev her to get out out of this boggy region in the rev range, which then made me feel like those 20 year olds we see revving at standstill at the lights. The bike stalled twice too, both times sat at lights with the clutch in. The stall felt like it is trying to run too lean.

Quickshift - I’ve had a up gear only (ducati is up and down gears) quick shift on my BMW from new. Again, I’m not sure if I need to adjust something in the Ducati’s electronics but, the shift on it has a weird pause (again compared to the BMW). Its like the software is killing the revs for a fraction of a second too long, the effect being a pause in power that kicks back in smoothly instead of the inertia I’m expecting.

Engine heat - it wasn’t particularly warm in Miami today. Still T-shirt weather but around 76f. The under-seat heat I’ve read about on here was absent on this bike, however, it runs very hot with the fan coming on frequently. I was wearing shorts and heat from the upper engine area was fierce but not unbearable on my bare knees and calves. I’m guessing that with jeans it could be either better or worse, depending if the heat is dissipating around my legs or if it would penetrate into and heat up fabric. I will try tomorrow.

Since this was just the first few hours in the saddle I suspect I will have more to say as I get accustomed to the bike. Right now my only benchmarks are current and past bikes, lets see if the SF 4S forges its own path in the coming days. I’m looking forward to getting a couple of hundred miles in tomorrow.

Hey guys. Im based in Auckland, New Zealand and the Streetfighter V4s will be my first Ducati.

Fortunately I was the 3rd Kiwi to order one and looking forward to it arriving. But none will get here until May/June at the very earliest! :( and the wait is killing me

We are in full lockdown here in NZ so cant leave our homes unless for food... so no riding at all, which sucks.

Currently I have a 2018 Aprilia Tuono 1100 Factory and have had 13 Aprilias since 2003, so have been pretty loyal to the brand.... Oh well...

Im already trying to find info on aftermarket exhausts, ECU mapping and other goodies... so any suggestions appreciated.

The Ackropovic exhaust is VERY expensive here... NZD$8,000 (About USD$4300) so what options are better priced, with similar performance improvements?

The bike is NZD$36,500 in NZ which is very expensive. The Tuono Factory is just $28,000 here for comparison sake. New KTM 1290r is $29,000.

Looking forward to the beastie arriving!

Hi Scott2ride

i was thinking of getting this exhaust if my bike ever arrives or if this exhaust fits. It does say Panigale V4S but wouldn’t think there would be much difference Between the two bikes

Nice right up!

Couple things in sport mode the engine is set to medium mode not high.
Go to setting menu hit enter then ride mode hit enter. Scroll to sport mode hit enter then scroll to engine hit enter. Scroll to high hit enter now you have full power.
Now set the wheelie control I thinks it set at 5 or 6 from the factory so basically no wheelies. Get out of engine setting hitting the back button and highlight DAVC mode and hit enter. Scroll to DWC and hit enter change to one or off.

For the power it doesn’t come on hard tell after 9000 hang on after that...

@Shotcaller thanks. As I mentioned, I didn’t get around to playing with the electronics. I put it in sport and that was it. So would I have been in low power by default? I hope so...since I was pretty surprised how subdued it felt.

find it hard for a street fighter that the power to comes in so late

Agreed! It’s still fast down low but night and day difference up in the high revs. it’s most impressive when up in the revs. Keep in mind it revs up near 15k. I need to correct myself down in the lower rpm range it’s a mellow ride by most standards.

Hey thanks for that. Really like the look of it too. And I suspect they would drop the price a bit too as they wouldnt need to supply all the carbon fibre lowere fairings.

Any idea what the hp gains are? Or a dyno curve? I couldnt see any info on that.
Cheers

I felt the same way you did tell I change the modes and let it rev out. It’s imperative that you understand all the settings. Once you understand all the technology at your finger tips you will love it.
For me I started with street mode for base because of default suspension setting (plush) Then changed the power mode and wheelie control. For the track I would for sure want the stiffer suspension settings.

And couldn’t agree more with you on the rear break lever position. I’m getting use to the position after several rides.

A mate just told me about a roll-on comparison of the Streetfigher V4s and the 2020 KTM 1290r. He couldnt find the link on facebook when he went looking again but is searching for it.

The rider was on the Streetfighter (stock) and said the KTM (also stock) just stormed away from him when they did roll-ons at 100kph, 130 & 150 kph and they tried in 3rd, 4th, 5th& 6th.

I was hoping the Streetfighter would have a little more midrange grunt??? He also said an Aprilia Tuono 2016 with slipon and race ECU (and 2 tooth down in the front) also kicked its butt.:oops: :( (Ok.. the Tuono was modified... but is IS 40hp down on the Duc)

The Streetfighter was stock and under 1000 miles, but I hoped for a better result.

Sorry mate I haven’t heard anyone with tunes or Dyno results

thinking after the first service, Ducati unlock it’s full potential Lol

Another poster suggested that I may be in low power mode (which would explain the overall lethargy). I will look at the electronics tomorrow and get my head around them. Today I just wanted to ride and may have inadvertently not been on full power. My seat-of-pants sensation was that the bike isn’t manic in the way my previous bikes have been or how my current BMW puts out its power. I am a seasoned rider with decades of superbikes and dirt racing in my youth, so I feel that I have the experience to be able to accurately summarize this bike. However, I will digress for now, because if the electronics have been incorrectly set, my initial sensations have been falsely masked. Stay tuned, tomorrow evening I will have more to say.
