To be a fair comparison, the normally aspirated 5.0 would need to produce over 942 HP to make the same power per liter as the SF. I can't imagine your mileage would be more than mid-single digits on a good day.My "sediments" exactly. In comparison, the small block V-8 in my F-150 gets 19-20 MPG highway (versus 28MPG on the V4), and that's a 5.7L engine moving 5000+ lbs.
My typical rides either a require a fuel stop, or a "white knuckle" return to home base (I have equipement and like to fuel up in my garage) on reserve. But that's not really the issue-the issue is the bogus fuel metering shown on the display. Makes one wonder what else on the dispaly is inaccurate.
We take the performance being wrung out of these engines for granted, complaining about an engineering miracle with this kind of performance (uncorked & big brothered, mind you) while still meeting emissions and noise standards as being underwhelming because it only offers >30mpg. Gotta pay to play one way or another.
