How do young

American Males find insurers to actually agree to insure them? It is difficult for a 23 year old male to get insurance on a CBR 125 over here? Yes I know its in the movies but we see college kids driving ferraris in USA, does this really happen?

On the other hand congrats on your purchase but be careful.....

Congrats on your purchase, I firmly believe you can be successful, however please please please be careful and learn every skill you possibly can! I started out on a Daytona 675 and I had plenty of close calls and stupid mistakes that I'm glad I made on that bike and not my $26k Panigale.

Good luck and cya around!

In America, insurance is very cheap with high end bikes. Expensive bikes equal cheaper insurance. I asked my insurance company why my Panigale was cheaper than my Suzuki. They stated that Ducati owners typically don't stunt their bikes, store bikes indoors, and essentially baby the thing.

I found that very interesting! Mostly because he was absolutely right!

Its not being 23 that's the issue, its that you are a new rider with basically no experience. If you educate yourself about riding, keep a cool head and dont get carried away you will most likely be fine, but you need to understand that everything about the Panigale is going to make you want to open it up and ride hard.. It most definetly is that kind of bike. You will resist doing this at first but the more familiar you are with the bike the harder it gets... I would say keep it in Rain mode, wear all the gear, and do some track days and riding schools.. And, after doing all these things, don't forget the most important thing of all.. ENJOY THE HELL OUT OF IT!!!

i dont understand how anyone with little to no experience buys a bike that could possibly kill them? Its like buying a machine gun to go hunting without learning how to use a pistol or rifle first. This is a fast bike!! with LOTS of POWER to WEIGHT ratio > which means if you dont have the experience, nor the understanding how to control it, IT DOESN'T MATTER what mode you ride, the "2012 Superbike of the Year" will either leave you in a box, or a serious wheelchair!

i don't think your age is an issue here, as others have mentioned it's experience as you have a 195bhp bike and you do not have the requisite skills to handle it.

Small mistakes on these kinds of bikes cost you or others their lives so drive safe and try and get in supervised track time or go to a superbike school.

Derek, must admit I agree with you too!! Weirdly enough just insured my Pani for the year and it is the cheapest quote I have ever had and I have insured a lot of Superbikes. Matter of fact it is cheaper to insure than my Hyundai 1.2 commuter car!!

Hey guys!

I'm new to this forum, and wanted to say hello :). As the title says, I am 23 years old, and will be owning my first motorcycle this summer (in July). I saved up every dollar I made these past few months and bought myself a Ducati 1199 Panigale! Giving up 20,000 dollars in one sitting was NOT fun, but I think this bike will be worth it. It's coming in Arctic White. Now, like I said before, this will be the first motorcycle I have ever owned. I have ridden bikes before, but never owned one. Any tips on breaking the news to my parents?!

I'm very excited to be a part of this crew!

1st motobike ever and you buy and 1199!!!???? Idiot!!!!! If this is a true story and you are not fishing and trolling for ideas!! If story is true you should have bought a older bike 1st. A 996 or 998.

NO!

I've experienced driving in the US, I'd be taking the bike immediately to the track, having 2 or 3 days of one on one coaching with a good school... It's not the bike that will kill u, ALL bikes have the same risk... Most bikes now are capable of over 100mph, hit anything at that speed and its a date with the hospital or maybe worse...

The ABS, Traction control, and even using it in wet mode are all things that will potentially keep u safe... But not more than good. Training, top quality gear and listening to good advice.. And remember its proven that after 40years of age unless the HUMAN is repetitively training they loose their edge and sharpness... 23 is ideal for learning skills and putting them in to action, listen to people on this forum, its a place to get advice and help.

But mostly, don't be a knob, don't show off and don't get in to racing others on the road... Or you WILL hurt your self or others...

Ride safe and enjoy... Good choice.. 1199s a great bike...

Congrats on finally getting your new dream bike!

A friend of mine jumped from a Vespa to a SF848 and finds it difficult around corners he hates it so much he rarely rides, so his SF sits in the garage most of the time, I wouldn't be surprised if he sells it anytime soon.

I also started off on a Vespa GTS 300, now a monster 696 (really wanted the Diavel).

With little experience I decided on the Monster 696 it has the same height as the Diavel, is a naked bike and is a very easy bike to learn on. Last year I was Tboned by a cager, so my current monster is my 2nd monster.. Since then I have gain more experience how to avoid accidents best i can.

Its all baby steps and now I'm enjoy every ride day on my Monster, next year I'm deciding on a Diavel or the Panigale it all depends, trying to gain as much knowledge (joining this forum) and experience.

I decided to check out a Ducati Track session (mostly 1199's and 1198's) watching these guys on 1199 with a life time experience scares me, makes my monster look and feel like a toy,

I will be doing my first track ride in May (white group) to help me decide if its for me (apart from Canyons) as this is where the Panigale likes to be ridden.

For me it is also about the journey finding out the right bike for you. Owning experiencing bikes so you get to appreciate your dream bike :)

All the best and ride safe

What's so lame, the only advice he wants, is he's asking us what to tell his Mom?!? This is a Ducati forum, not a Dear Abby!

R.I.P. Abby...
Now we'll never know!

Hey eqosaj09, first off welcome to the world of Ducati owners, this will b my fourth Ducati. U have purchased a very nice ride and like Zaster said, "Respect" the ride and she will take care of u as well as u taking care of her. U push her hard u will definitely be in a world of hurt my friend cause she will catch u off guard and u will pay for it badly. just take care of her and welcome to the family of "Awesome" rides.

I could care less if your 15. The 1199 as your first bike?

My advice is to go buy a cheap beat up 250 before you buy the Panigale. Your going to drop it. The beat up 250 will be cheaper than a set of plastics for the Duc.

Take an MSF course to get some basic instruction.

Motorcycle Safety Foundation

I promise you will enjoy the bike much more if you take the right steps.

take a course on riding...California Superbike School or any training you can get...enjoy your bike...

Ride responsibly on the road!

Late welcome aboard!

I kind of wish the inverse of these threads would pop up more often:

Special thanks to Bowdy for reminding us that if you don't use it you lose it. So I will be putting track days into my work Calendar! :)
