230HP??? Yikes!!!

Considering how long Yamaha has been working on the bike, I expect it to be a beast. I'm sure the next GSXR1000 will be insane as well.

thats insane. im just going to speculate here though and guess it wont put more than 185 to the rear wheel...just purely a guess...

Didn't the Superleggera promise, or have a to be rumored 240hp configuration at some point... then reality set in and it made "normal" power.

I have a feeling this will be quite similar. Not likely that the regular street going trim will make over 40hp more than the current batch of litre bikes.

exactly. and if they had this technology ready to roll out, I bet they would tame it down to around 200 to allow them to increase the power easily should someone else come out with something that competes with it power wise...

Or to have margin for the 2 year restyle.... :)

Its still ugly as hell though. I used to work for Yamaha, and owned two, and loved them. But since they went to this current look in 2009 i've hated it with a passion. They should implement some of the R6 design into the R1 as I think its a much better looking bike

Ha! Yeah I can kinda see where it gives that feeling. I haven't thrown a leg over one in years, but I know the models I had (03' and 04') didn't seem that bad...or at least not at the time. But then again, that was in 2003 and 2004

I hopped right off the Pani onto my buddies 11 R1 and I was in disbelief...it felt literally 2x wider although im sure its just a few inches, maybe 6...but wow.

In comparison to the Pani it absolutely would feel like a jet ski! lol

I think this is different because the design goal with the Superleggera was always to make it light as possible (not necessarily the huge power or to race). The new '15 liter bikes need big power because manufacturers will essentially be racing Superstock machines. While they may not make exactly 230hp, I think we'll see a big jump in HP for the race versions of the bikes. We'll also see a nice improvement in electronics.

I'm all for improvements in motorcycles!! By time I can afford (and be allowed by the Mrs.) to get a new bike, it should be a good decade, hahaha.

Just in time to hand my now 10 year old daughter the 1199! :)

The prototypes that have been spotted do look a lot more like the R6, but I think it will never be a narrow design just due to the engine. They have to beef that thing up to handle the odd firing crank.

I think since they call it the "race" version it will have a "race" map that is selectable, and will require some sort of high octane.

Just like selectable maps with the PCV's, you can have a MR12 map. Yamaha will probably require 110 race fuel or something.
