Most of you folks own $25-$30K MOTORCYCLES. What on earth are you doing driving (or must less arguing about) sub-150K sports cars? Well I can see it if you owned the car before the bike, but still?

Cars bore the ever-living .... out of me now, except for certain Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and to a much lesser extent Porsches. Oh, I'm sure that last part will start a shitstorm. Anyway, if you have one of THOSE cars I'd love to hear about how much THAT kicks ... (seriously, please). Otherwise please keep talking about bikes instead.

Simple, got bored driving sportscars on the street. Same reason why I no longer street ride a motorcycle. Only way to have fun is to end up in jail. Every car I get is slower than the last one, and I may finally give up my need to own a stick with my next one.

i thought this was bike forum.

It's great Yamaha is finally revising their R1, long overdue. I had an R6 before, 33k miles and zero problem, all i needed was oil and tires, Yamaha make great bikes. Not a fan of the R1's bulkiness, but people who rode the bike loves the engine, the crossplane + big bang firing order is addicting. The JapBig4 keep the Italians in check, force Ducati to keep pushing the envelop and make sure premium they charge isn't always on looks alone. I like it.

Hear Hear...

I for one am truly excited about a Ducati in the 220 -230hp range. I love my 1098R but I wish it had even more topend. I lust for the Superleggera, mainly for the components. But thankfully Ducati will have to build a Superleggera L4 to compete with the 230hp racing versions coming from the Japanese. Sign me up!!!

I started on sportbikes as a teen then later switched to cars and enjoyed them for a while. There's a few sub 150k cars that can get your adrenalin rushing in the right situations. For example, try to lap the Nurburgring at or near your limit in a ZR1 or Viper and if that doesn't get your heart rate up then check your pulse. I traded a Viper for a R8 and took it with me to Germany for year. Had fun on the autobahns, but I once returned to the states I was no longer satisfied with the short burst of speed we do here on highway on-ramps or on some back road hoping there's no cops around. Got rid of my sports cars and switched back to sportbikes.

I also got to drive a 458 and MP4-12C hard on the autobahns. The 458 didn't impress me much, the the MP4-12C was like nothing I'd ever driven. I can only imagine what the P1 would is like.

Me messing around with my R8 on the autobahns.

Being from Germany I really enjoyed the video. Since you didn't break any local laws in your video, mind telling me where that was :D

Sure, it was in Baden-Württemberg. :D

Yeah, that was all unrestricted zones between Heidelberg and K-Town (Kaiserslautern). Autobahn was empty because Euro2012 was on and Germany was playing at the time.

Yes, I was surprised about the lack of traffic.
Riding your beast on home turf.....priceless :D

I really enjoyed having that car over there. Funny thing is it had just arrived in the states and was still at the port in San Diego when Audi North America located it for me (it had all the options I wanted). I purchased it and it was only in the states for about a week before it was on a boat headed back to Germany. Incredible to get a chance to experience the car on the roads it was built for.

I asked you what criteria you were using to compare the RS5 to the M3. If you're just comparing raw performance numbers that's great, but the vast majority of buyers do not care about that. It's the subjective things that are behind why most buyers are purchasing one over the other. That said, in the 2013 C&D Lightning Lap test the RS5 had a quicker time than both the M6 and M5 (I'm not sure why the M3 wasn't included) and both those cars have posted quicker laps than the M3.

Top Gear proves it? Lol... an entertainment show is where you get your facts? I wasn't really comparing the R8 to the M3. You said BMW is "smashing" Audi and I was pointing out that isn't really the case as Audi has cars that provide a driving experience BMW isn't touching yet. Hell, even the RS7 vs M6 Gran Coupe.

yes top gear proves it . the stig is a professioanl race car driver that drove both back to back. yes i am using raw numbers. audi sucks. cars drive like crap understeer like crazy. only thing the s5 rs 5 have is the interior. yes i am using raw numbers. i dont care what people feel. numbers dont lie. pretty simple. audi rs is a terrible car and way over priced. i will post some links for you.

again i am talking rs5 vs m3. the reason it was brought up wasnt really to compare the cars it was audi much like ducati had 3 years to see and match the competition and couldnt do it. i didnt really want to make it a car thread.

Top Gear: BMW M3 Competition Package vs. Audi RS5

sorry audi sucks well let me re state sorry you have to buy an r8 v10 to get a good car by audi.

if you dont want to watch here is the outcome spoiler alert

The BMW M3 Coupe is still king and at about a second faster than the RS5, it remains the first choice among enthusiasts looking for the ultimate thrill which can still be found in the ….Ultimate Driving Machine.

i would be very surprised if the new R1 is anything over 200bhp simply because they have to warranty it. I actually think Ducati were going about it the right way with the SL and not focusing on top end BHP but putting greater emphasis on weight savings.

For me lighter bikes are what interests me as I don't need any more power I just want something that handles great and turns in easily.

When the R1 first came out it changed the super bike market and with Suzuki and Honda also needing to refresh their platforms we should have some interesting bikes coming out in the next few years

let me be clear cause obviously people like to read into what i say and not actually what i said. i never said audi as a company is getting smashed. i said this now the new m4/m3 is out and audi is getting smashed again.

i was refering to the rs4/5 vs m3/m4.

again the reason was the m3 came out in 08 the rs5 in 10. 2 years later and couldnt match the m3. much like ducati 1199 out in 12. s1000rr out in 08 ducati had 4 years to at least match the s1000rr and couldnt do that.

that is why it was brought up.

i owned an m3 convertible and went with the 5 series m sport. the 1199 and the track has diminished my wanting or trying to go fast in cars. dont misconstrue what i said though. i am insanely jealous that you have or had that r8 v10. not many people can say that. my whole point was the time both companies had to top their competition and couldnt do it.

ps great video

while we are at it, if you take away the HP comparison between RS5 and M3, i would throw in the Cayman S in the mix, talk about fun factor, that baby is through the roof.

since i derailed the thread i might as well continue sorry. the cayman s would be a better car than the 911 if Porsche allowed it but they cant have that

Liter bikes now a days have plenty of power for the street. But if your racing these things on a track, you can never have enough power.
