It still feels weird when I flip from my 1199 to my R6. The R6 being much wider. Never sat on a R1 but can only imagine it bring bulkier. The R1 styling now & for the past few years has been downright fugly!

Only Mark could turn a new R1 thread into another "1199 Sucks" message while turning the discussion to cars. No mention of Rossi though so that's progress:D

Hmm, that has me wondering...

Marquez in a 2013 M3 vs. Rossi in an RS5. Who's faster?

Rossi, i know he tested for Ferrari F1 team, and his practice time would've placed him top 10 on the starting grid.

since i derailed the thread i might as well continue sorry. the cayman s would be a better car than the 911 if Porsche allowed it but they cant have that

Wouldn't it be just as easy to say that the 911 would be a better car if they changed it to a mid engine layout? You are getting all torqued out over the fact that a car that posts the best numbers must be the better car. Street cars are better cars for the street if they don't post the best number on the track because most people want a degree of features and everyday comfort and drive ability for the street.

It's the exact reason why I put over twice as many miles on my Ninja 1000 as I do on my Panigale, and in truth, on the street the Ninja 1000 is just as much fun if you ignore the visceral thrill.

in the next 15 months there are four all new bike releases

-All new Suzuki gsxr
-All new Suzuki Hayabusa
-All new Yamaha R1
-All new CBR1000rr

Even though I have ridden mostly Ducati's , I am very excited with the release of the all new Hayabusa

When do they normally announce bikes? October/November?

Yamaha 2009 was announced in Sept 2008
BMW S1000RR 2010 announced in May 2009
1199 2012 Unveiled in Jan/Feb 2012

Correct me if I'm wrong, they were some quick google searches.

Usually at the Milan show. This year it's 6-9 November.

From Motorcyclenews.com today:

New Yamaha R1 on the way - | Motorcycle News | New Motorbikes | Buyers Guides | MCN

Part of the article:

Yamaha is just three months away from unveiling a completely new YZF-R1 superbike that it hopes will have the same class-defining impact the original 1998 model had when it was launched.

The new bike retains the basic engine design of the current model, but it is understood to share almost nothing else with the current bike as it attempts to take on the likes of the BMW S1000RR and Aprilia RSV4 in terms of technology and performance.

MCN revealed spy pictures of a heavily-disguised prototype testing 18 months ago, wrapped in R6 bodywork but with a visibly different chassis and swingarm and being tested back-to-back with a BMW S1000RR.

Now we’ve had insider confirmation that the result of that development programme will be revealed before the end of the year. Our source said the R1 will be “shown at Intermot in Cologne and available in 2015.”

I call ...........

I would be VERY surprised if it made more (or even the same amount of) power as the BMW 1000RR

Let's hope not..... I was always taken back why Honda & Yamaha didn't step up their game more, once the S1000RR came out.

I for one would LOVE them to push the envelope!

its going to be interesting for sure. if it ends up making about 160hp to the wheel some people are gonna blow up on Yamaha for sure because they sure have talked it up a bit.

I love the crossplane.. The grunt and the power delivery is pretty awesome. What I dislike is the beefy size..I prefer the slim duc to that.

As long as they don't replace the r1 with a triple I'll be happy.

Love the sound of the cross plane. But they're going to have to go back to a flat crank to make those #'s.
