The sixth gear trick is interesting, easier to turn motor over?

It also seemed like more oil came out once I put the bike on the rear stand (quite a bit), it took a full 3.5 quarts

Main idea behind the 150 mile flush is purge the dirty oil and assembly lube fast - mine was filthy

Yeah, I think that's why. It was still a little hard to turn even in 6th. I didn't try it in lower gears but I imagine it would be hard.

Mine looked pretty bad at 150. I finished doing it again tonight now that I'm just short of 600. The drain plug was pretty full both times.

I've been told that modern oils will look dirty quickly due to detergent additives. Meaning, if it's in the oil, it's been cleaned out of the motor.

I love the smell of Motul 300V. Smells like bubble gum :)

Not buying that one, if the oil is visibly dark, it's typically because of high particulate, gas contamination, etc - get is analyzed if you're unsure

The oil in my S2000 (car) still looks pretty good after 5000 miles. The oil in my FD RX-7 gets black quick because of the fuel dilution common with boosted engines and especially with rotaries

Wondering when I should change my oil, what oil and filter to use, take it to my mechanic, do it myself, take it to Ducati...150 miles, 400 miles, 600 miles. What to do?

Just do what Mr Ducati says. He made the bike.
