I recently aquired an 848, I'm about 5'10" tall and found the riding position very hard on the wrists, I was hoping that some of you have owned a 848 prior to owning a 1199 and to get some input, I love the 1199 and have given it lots of thought, sat on one at a dealer, no way to tell about comfort. To hit the twisties from home is about 30 t0 40 miles of boring straits which seems to wear you out before the fun. Your thoughts?

I'm the same height and 1199 is more comfy in terms of reach, riding position height, and on the wrists, IMO.

i did 4,500 miles on the Pani this season, lots of road trips, longest trip was 450 miles per day. its somewhere in the middle between and 848 and a CBR1000 in term of comfort.
the egro was not the issue for me, but the vibration is.

Use your knees to support you, don't lock your elbows ang grip very lightly. You will be surprised how comfy any bike can be even on long rides. This takes the pressure off the wrist.

The panigale is definitely more comfortable for most riders that I've talked with around here, with a shorter reach to the bars and higher bars being the main difference. I ride sportbikes mostly on the track, usually riding a Multistrada or Diavel on the street. But occasionally I do some longer sporty street rides with the local Ducati club and I've done many 2-3 hour rides the past few years on several different 848/1098/1198 models as well as the Panigale this year. The Panigale did not have me squirming around trying to shift my position to reduce tingling fingers or sore back every 5 minutes like the other bikes always did. The stock seat is pretty firm, but that's no different from the older bikes.

I sat on the 848 before counting it out. The 1199 is pretty comfortable, but only after the race seat in my case. Had an 09 1000RR 08 CBR600RR and a 11 RC8R (most comfortable) before the Pani

I own both with comfort/superpole seat. The pani is definately more comfortable even with the stock seat. On the 848 you feel as if you're on top of it, as where with the 1199 I feel like I'm in it. Better on the wrist as well

My post from ducatispot.com:

...I had a 08 848 and thought I loved it. I purchased a Honda 1000rr to commute to work on, didn't want to rack up freeway miles on the 848. What was weird to me was that when riding the duc, my body felt rigid and jagged as opposed to the 1000rr where it felt as if my body just melted into the bike. For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why until I noticed that the shape of the tank where your stomach/chest rests is completely different. The 848 is a sharper angle up (like 80deg) and then slopes down towards the front, while on the 1000rr, the angle is larger, like a 60deg angle. I found that it was the shape of the tank that threw me off. Long story, I ended up selling the 848 and keeping the 1000rr. Fast forward to now, have a panigale 1199s and absolutely love it. You'll notice that the tank angle is a lot like on the 1000rr or even the S1000rr, more of a gentle slope and not a sharp angle. Body just melts and totally fits her. Looking back, I would not get the 848 again but I'd purchase a pani all over again.

Regarding the heat. That was also an issue with the 848 or even the 1098/1198 for that matter. The route that the exhaust takes, plays havoc on your inner thighs and then having the exhaust under your a$$ doesn't help much either. The pani has heat also, a little different from the 848 and it was a concern that I had myself prior to purchasing but it's not bad at all unless you're stopped in traffic. When you get going it's fine and I live where it get's to 105 at times.

I personally love the 848 on the track. I have never ridden it on the street for more than a half hour straight but didn't really have any issues.i have spent a lot of time in the saddle of the pani on the street and track. I suppose the pani is more comfortable but my right hand still gets numb after a while and I feel like I am sitting on top of it more than the 848. The s1000 was by far the most comfy I have ridden but I wouldnt trade it for the pani. I absolutely love the bike. It can get a bit warm at times though.

I will say that the ability to adjust engin braking on the Panigale has saved my wrist. I don't think the 848 gives that ability. I jack up the setting and decrese the harsh engine braking from the V twin. I was used to the Aprilia V4 and enjoyed the softer engine braking on my wrists, particularly for the low speed stop and go commuting.

I got rid of my 848 for a Pani. I am 5'8 and this bike is extremely a lot more comfortable than the 848. Because of the height of the bars on the Pani, I dont have to reach as far and this bike is a lot more user friendly.

I'm a tad taller than you (just over 5'-11") and I think I can comment on this as I have ridden just about every Ducati produced since the Pantah. I say "just about" because I have yet to ride either an Indiana or a Desmosedici. Between the 848/1098 models and the Panigale I prefer the Panigale, especially with the addition of the "race seat" on the Panigale. The ergos are simply better. Bear in mind I prefer a smaller motorcycle. Most comfortable Ducati ever? Early GT....but who doesn't love a round case? ;)

848 now a track bike, Panigale commuter bike, replacing the 1098S. I have to say that at 6'2", 230 I was more comfortable on the 1098/848 (with Woodcraft rearsets on both) than on my Panigale. For some reason, my right wrist goes numb on the 1199 of which I never experienced on the 1x98/848.

Also, I like the neoprene race seat I had on those platforms. I have had the comfort seat, the race seat and am back on the stock seat. Didn't like the way the other seats grabbed my jewels and held on.

I put about 80 miles a day on my commute to and from work.

I can honestly say I was getting to hate the 1199 until I finally got the suspension tweaked to my liking (which took alot of trial and error) and the new Map update.

If you're riding posture is correct, your wrists shouldn't hurt, regardless of bike. No weight should be on your hands.

Purchase a set of these... www.helibars.com It will just make your 848 feel more comfy...no more aching wrists, more upright position and better angled clip-on.... Best investment you will make on your 848.

Taller riders have longer reach, thus the more upright position while shorter guys have shorter reach.... helibars (www.helibars.com) solves this problem....for the shorter guys.

For me the 1199 is much more comfortable than the 848/1198 chassis was, because of the higher, closer clip-ons.

I'm 6'7" and comming from the 1098s i can tell you the Pani is way more comfortable thanks to the more upright position (comfort seat mounted)

I have short legs. I found it difficult with the Pani to lock my knees to get the purchase I need on the tank. For 848/1098 it was easier. Pani seems to require me more forward than I'm used to.

Experimenting now with the comfort seat and potentially rear sets up higher to solve the problem.

Neither caused/causes problems with wrists, as other posters have pointed out that's more about riding style.

I do know that since I've had the pani the 848 hasn't been out of the garage.
