Hi there
Found this site and thought I would stop in and say hello. ..
I have my 899.. picked it up on friday there.. managed 66 miles due to the naff weather conditions. .. I really enjoyed them!
Looking forward to hearing helpful hints and tips for places to buy gear etc...
See ya

Congratulations and welcome!

Glad you're enjoying your bike. I truly hope you don't suffer as many first-year "issues" as many 1199 owners here did in the last year. Despite all the problems, I've thoroughly enjoyed my bike though and have no plans other than to keep upgrading!

May I ask what previous bikes you owned and how you compare the 899 to them?

Have fun and ride safe, I hope the weather gets better so you can enjoy your new toy.

Also, pics would be very much appreciated!

Hi... I had a monster 696.. covered over 20,000 miles of smiles on that baby.
I also had joint custody of an 848evo, put around 5,000 miles on her...
Currently have a KTM Rc8 which I have put around 6,000 miles on just this year...
The other half has the S and R versions and having scooted around on the S version, I just knew I had to get the baby version!! So I placed an order.. lol

The 899 is a much easier ride than the ktm ... it's comfortable sitying in traffic and your not fighting it like the ktm.
The 899 seems to corner with less effort too.
I will have it on a couple of track days next year to find out the differences there between the two..
Riding the ktm is more like riding the 848.... but with more perks lol
I'll work out how to do pictures tomorrow.
Thanks for the welcome

it is about as dry as it is going to get here... and knockhill will be christened next year! Ducati Glasgow organise they track days and they are very well done! I cant wait..

The seat certainly looks like it would be more comfortable than the standard 1199's. How do you like it?

Just eye-balling the pics, the seat appears to be slightly thicker than the 1199 stock.

Also, no "improved" heat shield.

The white lettering on the clutch cover is a nice touch.

That's what jumped out at me Charlie. Did they fix some of the heat problems with the 899 or just decide the new heat shields were a rear hugger melting abortion and the covers were just one more thing to get in the way when trying to fix the leaking valve covers? I'd ask the OP to go ride around in traffic in jeans and post leg pics, but I don't need everyone hurling squid insults at me. :)

Also curious - what engine temps are you seeing and in what conditions? I.E. - in town, traffic, stop and go and what are you seeing in normal riding.

Thanks! Love the bike, btw...

the engine temp has reached just over the 100 mark once sitting in traffic..
I have seen it sitting around 60 - 70 when just tootling around..
I have mostly be riding on back roads sitting just around 70mph... still running in engine/tyres and the brakes... Never had ABS before but the front brake lever is not filling me with confidence.. I use two fingers on the front lever, and have squashed the other fingers pulling the lever back... ?!?! then once I 'pump the lever' it does not seem to come back as far... not sure if this is the way it is or because it is all just bedding in ... only 169 miles done on the toy.

the roads are greasy and the leaves are all over them, the wind is blowing and the rain is not that far away. Outside temp is about 9deg. Not that warm.

The seat is better than the ones he got with the 1199, it is not squishy and does not feel like there is a soggy nappy for a seat (not that I have sat on one!)

"he has an oil viewer"... ?? eh??

Thanks! So far that sounds cooler than the 1199, at least mine anyway. I usually see 100-110 in traffic and tootling around (stop lights/signs here and there, maybe 30-40 mph average speed) I am usually around 100. I only see 60-70 at startup (lol).

You can prob adjust the lever (I assume the 899 has adjustable levers?) or bleed the clutch. We all do that regularly or ziptie/rope tie the clutch lever to the bar overnight seems to work for some.

the first 1199 didnt have an oil viewer. to see your oil level you had to pull the fairing with a led light and hope to see something
