bleeding the clutch will help with my brake lever because...... :-O

maybe in the summer the bike will run warmer.. who knows.

Never had ABS before but the front brake lever is not filling me with confidence.. I use two fingers on the front lever, and have squashed the other fingers pulling the lever back... ?!?! then once I 'pump the lever' it does not seem to come back as far... not sure if this is the way it is or because it is all just bedding in ... only 169 miles done on the toy.

I know its ridiculous to have to do this on a brand new bike... But bleed that front brake and you will be shocked just how good the brakes actually are... Its a 1 min job ....and you will do it lots...:(

Thanks! So far that sounds cooler than the 1199, at least mine anyway. I usually see 100-110 in traffic and tootling around (stop lights/signs here and there, maybe 30-40 mph average speed) I am usually around 100. I only see 60-70 at startup (lol).

It's cold out (9C) He has a hoodie over his leathers (at least I *hope* that's over some leathers). It's not going to run hot like that in that damp weather. I'll be curious to hear what's it's like at 80-90+F

You can prob adjust the lever (I assume the 899 has adjustable levers?) or bleed the clutch. We all do that regularly or ziptie/rope tie the clutch lever to the bar overnight seems to work for some.

Brakes, Cap'm Crunch.....Brakes. If he's getting pull back to the clip-ons, he needs to bleed 'em (unless his lever is really out of whack).

If it's as damp there regularly as he says, he'll make a timely invetment in a Mity-Vac and bleed/replace brake fluid often - like monthly.

ahem!! That HE is a SHE who has plenty of layers on under the zip together leathers and the hoody on top as it is brighter than the black leathers.

The Garage have noted the issue and I have to take it in for them to have a look at next time I venture out in the lovely scottish weather...

if we ever get 80-90+F it may be when I tour Europe....;) not very often does it get that hot.. but i like your thinking...

I am excited to see them out and about! I ordered a white one too :) I am hoping it comes soon.

You mentioned the temperatures in traffic, but did you notice if the seat or bike felt hot? Did you feel warm when the bike got warm?

Thanks

The seat didn't quite heat up as much as his S does - that feels like it comes with a heated seat...

I did feel some warmth on my inner thigh of my right leg. but not a huge amount.. but it is rather chilly outside prob not the best weather to be testing the temperatures in.

However, it would be rude not to go out and spend some miles bonding..:D

Profuse apologies offered on that gaffe.

As for the heatshield, you do have the cylinder covers which were not on the original 1199s. Perhaps the manifold shield is specific to different locales (Scotland being cooler gets the original one)?
I find it odd that Ducati, after obviously being affected by some of the critics regarding a so-called "heat" issue and after redesigning the manifold shield, would revert to the original design on the 899.
Unless...the seat (as others have indicated) has been redone to mediate some of the radiant heat. I need to check this out when they arrive on this side of the Atlantic.
when you take it in to the dealer, look at a 1199 DP Comfort Seat and let us know what the differences are.

(You do realize, of course, by being first here you're probably going to be the de facto "go-to" rider for all of us who have questions on the 899.)

The style of the heat shield is the same as the original heat shield on the 1199, however it is made of a different material - the same material they used on the new heat shields for the 1199s.

I did not go for the heat shield upgrade for my 1199 thought it was ugly but I might buy an 899 shield for my 1199 instead, who know it may work better.

hey there, no worries .. :-D

The seat is half the height of the DP comfort seat and the DP race/sport neoprene one.
which is approx 10mm taller than the standard seat of the 1199.

The exhaust has the side covers but not the exhaust manifold covers... I shall take piccies in day light to help explain?..

cheers

Sorry, misread that. Still, same solution. :)

Bleed, bleed bleed and bleed again! I keep a permanently rigged bleeder bottle in my "box of oily crap" in the garage and just dump it as needed.

I'm jealous. Pretty soon this side of the forum will have more post-ers than the 1199 part. Ducati really did a number bringing in this new form factor for the masses. I real good looking bike, no doubt! Welcome!

The 899 shield won't fit as downpipes are different size and shape

The bike I rode for 170 odd miles did not throw out anywhere near as much heat as my 1199

:D:D:D:D:D

loads more pictures will follow when I get out to play.. fingers crossed its dry tomorrow..

Firstly, beautiful scoot :)

Now, I'm no bling-master (we have a number of resident experts, who's skills far exceed my own), but isn't it funny how the red wheels are a little lost, when compared the visual impact the red trellis added to the 848 Evo.

I can't help thinking that red 899 Panigale and Ducati graphics may well be the order of the day :)

Out with the otherhalf on his R...

A few more questions for you -

What is that small lever-looking thing under the rear seat (looks like it's more towards the left side) above the exhaust manifold shield?
No passenger peg hangers but you have the passenger seat on. Does the 899 come with the swappable solo/passenger rear cowl like the 1199? Just curious.

I'm still fascinated by the white raised lettering on the clutch cover. A really nice touch. Been thinking of how to do it on my 1199.

Small lever type thing is my tax disc holder with the adapter I put on for strapping the bike down when in tranist. That will be removed as I have ordered a different tax disc holder. I have also ordered a new tail tidy.. much like the one on his R.

No pillion pegs... seat comes as standard. I am going to get his spare red seat cowl painted white.. so I dont have to have a pilion seat for no apparent reason. :)
cheers x

You have got air in you front brake system (most likely the master cylinder).

It's not safe, and you should attend to it ASAP.
I highly recommend seeing your dealer about it.
