Im sorry....after putting 600 miles on this thing....i can truly say...no other Ducati is messing with this bike....it felt like after the first service this thing got even faster....at first it did feel like the bike had less torque....but not now....this thing has everything n more than any other Duc I have owned....if u are still on an older model....you are missing out...SERIOUSLY....this bike is FAST AS .........I cant imagine what my Full termis are going to feel like....smh

Likewise! I have rode many bikes and I think the Panigale and the BMW S1000RR are by far the fastest. Personally I enjoy riding the Panigale much more though. Ive been smashing Jap bikes all week long the last couple weeks since Ive had it. already put almost 2300 miles on it.

I noticed the same thing after the first service. Its fore sure more powerful. Wish I was a smaller dude! I'm 6'3 250. If I weighed in at 130-180 I'm sure it would feel more powerfull and the nose would be all over the place! I love how planted this bike is all throughout the corner. I hope to get some formal performance riding lessons at some point. Its a fun little bike!

I'm sure this is going to go over like a fart in church...but I've yet to see ANY comparison where the Panigale is the "fastest" in any category. 0-60, 0-100, Quarter mile, lap times etc. Maybe that data is coming, but I haven't seen it yet. I love it as much as you guys do, but lets not make stuff up.

1098 was definitely not the fastest but I slaughtered every bike i went against.....even in a straight line up top.....so i go by how my bike feels........ comparison....honestly

Wasn't referring to your fastest Ducati statements. But to say it's the fastest bike out there is most likely just not true, at least not in stock form. It's quite possible you're the fastest rider. Just curious, you trust your own riding impression over the objective numbers compiled by dozens of sources comparing the bikes at the same time?

At some point, usually, as one ages tastes change as does what one cares for.

I no longer care who is faster than I am or even who is the fastest.

I ride a Ducati 1199 Panigale S Tricolore because that's what I want to ride. Same with my other bikes - I bought them because they were the bikes I wanted to ride.

If a BMW wants to blow by me - OK. Have a nice ride. Sheesh, if a Vespa wants to pass me (and can) - I'm OK with that too.

There will always be someone on something that is faster than me or someone with something to prove.

SO WHAT?!

I don't care.

I wish I could say I completely agree. That would say I have some sense of maturity, however it does matter to me. After first reading all the data from Ducati, ala "checkmate" and 195 hp etc. I was thinking at least for now this bike at twice the price of jap bikes would be king. But test report after test report from very reputable sources, the bike just does not live up to the hype. I mean third place after a honda?
I think you have to hand it to the BMW it does what it says in every test it is king.
I have owned many Ducati's and find myself always returning to them. Hate them when I sell them and then miss it and buy another. Love/hate for sure.
Ducati owners to a degree really become professional apologist for the brand. It burns our legs but thats ok. It does not always want to start, but thats ok. Soft paint, One could go on and on.
I think we have to be honest, the bike is wonderful but is not the king, not even for the year.
Again it should not matter to have bragging rights but it kinda does.

I think that's well said. It used to really bother me when my Honda finished behind the Gixxer in every comparison. But, at 41 I guess maybe a hint of maturity has crept in. I would like for the 1199 to be crushing the other bikes, but it's ok with me that it's not. The bottom line to me is that it's an incredible bike that stirs my soul whether it finishes first, or sixth:D

Agree with ttkarp's comments. Regarding d1098man's post... Let's not get carried away here. My '08 ZX-10R w/full Arka, PCIII, etc. was faster based on a "seat of the butt" feel after an aggressive 40 min solo ride on a 1199 with a full Termi system and post 600 mile service where I was told "have a good go at it!"

Don't get me wrong, I think the 1199 is fast, but it did not blow me away in terms of outright speed (handling & unique character impressed in stock form though). I'm also aware that it was a 'like new' machine that would get even stronger with more miles, but as others said, it hasn't come away the leader in any single test.

I know... I know... reviews shouldn't solely dictate how you buy a bike, but just saying...

On other note, I owned a 1098 w/Termis and although it was a great, fun ball of torque, it definitely could not "take out" other liter bikes once past 100 or so.

Comments from a Ducati fan so pls don't bash (just picked up great deal on a 1198 with tons of engine and suspension mods)

They might not win a lot of magazine comparisons but they have won a lot of world championships. And it is waayyy cooler than any other bike.

HP numbers, top speed tests, lap times, magazine reviews, liter-bike comparos--all these things are quite relevant and definitely factor into the buying decisions of guys out there. But the one category all the magazines, web sites, youtube comparos and track tests have failed to consider: female response. The 1199 is my first Ducati and in 1 week I've received more smiles, blown kisses and waves by women than I have in 20 years of riding Jap and Brit bikes.

If you want something that gives 18-35 year old males wet dreams, go with an S1000RR. But if you want panties to drop, there's nothing more effective than an 1199.

I have to agree with AntiHero. The women in cars definitely take notice and make comments.

I remember back in 1985 when the GSXR750 was announced, it excited the bike market and actually changed the direction of sportbikes forever. Since then there have been other sportbikes that have raised the bar for the rest. The 92 Honda CBR, 98 Yamaha 1000, GSXR1000 K2, BMW S1000R. All were outstanding machines that made the rest of the manufacturers stand up and take notice. The 1199 is more than that however. I think it is game changer and will not just raise the bar but set a new standard for sportbikes.

So,while it may not be the 'winner' in those arguably commercially biased magazine tests, it will be a bike that will have a page in the history books. It's also a bike that everyone, deep down, would like to own.

No buyer's remorse here!
