what radar will you be using? i have a battery powerd one called the solo but you wont be able to hear it and the sight will be difficult.
On my 1199S, I completed a couple of mounts today. Thanks to suggestions across the forum, I have two different mounts for my radar detector and have posted the pictures below. Let me know if you need more pics.
The black center mount is probably my favourite, I had the dealer install it for me so I don't have a lot of details. I plan to velcro my radar detector right on top. This is exactly the product I purchased, I got it from Amazon but I'm sure you can get it from Adaptiv or elsewhere: Amazon.com: Adaptiv D-01-16 AdaptivMount Type D Sport Bike Mount: Automotive
Also, I installed just the base for a silver mount on the fork. As I was instructed, for the S you'll need to slip the wires past the base's opening but that was easy; you can do this yourself. It fits and it looks good. I may use it in the future. I also purchased it thru Amazon but I'm sure you can get it from Techmount or elsewhere: Amazon.com: Techmount Fork Tube Mount Kit - Silver - 53mm 70053SILVER: Automotive

2 options. The Cobra ($120) interfaces with an iPhone and an Android. It is awesome, in that you can be oistening to tunes, phone conversation, and it interupts with the alert. On my beemer I have a Valentine One ($399) (the best, for situational awareness, etc.) which recently came out with a Android interface, iPhone this Spring. Both require 12v in, not a big deal.
Another way to go, are these bright LED kits that shine in your eye from the dash, or a headset.
does the cobra run on batteries?
No, but with a couple adapters, you can have a cigarette lighter receptacle on your bike - very easy.
Easy as in you just have to pull out the battery to attach the leads. There is just a cover that pops off, and a strap. Try it, you can't hurt anything doing it, and easy to put back.![]()

Don't even need to do that.
My 1199 came with a connector used to plug in a battery charger. Just get a mating connector (like what's on your battery charger), wire your cig adapter receptacle to it (or better yet, a BMW type Powerlet receptacle) and just plug it in there.
No need to get to the battery for this at all.
I purchased the MotorReva Ram Ball Mount Stem based on the recommendation of another member. I dropped it off at the dealer for install and at first glance the Tech said it was approximately 1/4" taller than stock. They are going to try to install it this week prior to picking up my new 1199. With that said I will be really pissed if the forum member was screwing with me.

I converted my stem to a dual mount, by using a RAM option, that coverts the center screw on an arm to antother ball. Radar mounted under faring on velcro (earleir post)
