Hi,

I was wondering if I go on short trips am I doing any damage to the bike? short = 10 - 15 mins.

Also I've been reading on the forum about the issue people had with the random stalling, I've developed this issue recently. Since I got a firmware upgrade in December, The shop didn't know if it was the latest version.

So im wondering did that issue go away with the latest firmware, if so I might of got a older one.

Cheers

Dealer mentioned possible stalling after the update and asked me to let the know ASAP.

I would ask your dealer about it, as it sounds like Ducati may have warned them of something related to your issue.

Maybe the ecu has to go through a fresh learning cycle, relating to fuelling?

The way the bike handles fuelling is like this:

You have open loop and closed loop. IIRC Open Loop is used in the lower RPM's and uses the O-2 sensors to create a map based on the bike's operation as you ride it. Once you reach a certain point, the dynamic map is not responsive enough and reverts to set tables in the Closed Loop setting. HTH

Your bike still needs to customize the open loop map.

Short trips are no problem. Like anything get the oil flowing and hot before you over-rev but in these bikes that doesn't take long.

I've noticed amongst the bikes I know that those with the new map that are over the 1000k (600 mile) run-in period have no problems with stalling. If your map was installed in Dec it should be the new one unless your dealer is .....

Hope that helps.

I remember reading a post here about winter storage or maybe just storing the bike for prolonged periods, I don't remember. I can't find it, but someone said that the bike is better off just sitting rather than short (<20mi) trips or letting it idle for a few minutes in between weeks or months of non-use. They cited condensation or moisture building up in the motor or exhaust. Can anyone tell me if this is real or just a perceived risk? If there is a link to any real data as opposed to WOTFreakboy's post on 600rr net from 2006, I'd appreciate it.

Common sense tells me the best method is to prep it properly and leave it alone.

Example:

Either drain fuel tank or add Stabil
Change Oil/Filter
Front Rear Stands
Battery Tender
Cover (duh)

Yep, agree with you. I think it makes sense, just curious since that would mean that there's condensation building up within the first 10-15 miles regardless.

Only about 200 miles now, so didn't change the oil or filter. But, have the tender, cover, fuel stabilizer and a rear not front stand. Trying to guess the weather here is fruitless, last year I wouldn't have ridden for 3 months and this year I've been able to get out twice in 6 weeks since I got the bike. So, not sure if this applies.

IF you haven't had an oil change, your oil is filthy. The break-in mechanically occurs mostly within 50 miles. If you are storing it CHANGE YOUR OIL! When you do you will notice flakes and a silver metallic sheen from the break-in process.

 I guess I'm a ........ I thought I needed to wait 'till the 600 mi service.

Edit: Didn't mean to hijack your thread Carl.

If you're storing it, change it for sure. TBH, there were a million threads on it. But I did an oil change at 50, 150, 300, and 600, and 1200 for my break-in process. (I also used break-in oil.)
