It was a warm winter's day - perfect weather for a SF run in the mountains! On my way back going through some fast twisties I felt something wrong... the SF was not handling well and it got worse fast! I got to a part where I could pull off to check the tires. Front was OK - rear... on the rim! I was in a remote area with no phone connectivity! Dozens of bikers went past - not a single one was interested in stopping - just throttle up and disappear! After about an hour a pickup came up the pass and slacked off... the driver made a u-turn and out of the vehicle got Lucas and Andrew. Never met them before, but both BIKERS! I no time they got tools out, had some CO2 canisters and plugged the rear tire where an ugly fat screw punched through the tire. Thank you guys! Much appreciated! When I offered to pay for the kind deed they wanted nothing... just said: Pay it forward! Blessings to them!!

I don’t trust a plug at anything over 195 mph : )

Still some good people in the world!

Sure could use those timing tools @endodoc
Yes there are still some good people.... I will change the tire or have a plug inserted from the inside if that is safer. Regards.

Get a cheap plug kit- 20 bucks? Keep it in the tail. I learnt my lesson and have had to do it about once every 10,000 on supercorsa's. Have done over 270k with a plug in it multiple times, not ideal but they are glued in and when you understand how they work you can trust them.

To add, you are obviously not going to do a track day on them but they are perfectly fine to finish your tire off as you usually but not always get punctures on a pretty used tire.

Sure - no track days.... my tire still has about 60+% tread left...

I’ve done the same. Street conditions a plug will do ya fine until you change tires. Now if you get a second flat that’s when it’s time to call it quits and change.

Two service agents recommended a tire change... They say that the tires on the bike has a lot of flex on the (thin) tread side and it may be dangerous... What is the socket size for the rear nut??

for a screw hole? They are bullshitting you, worst case is removing the tire and putting in a rubber mushroom. 55mm

i am not anti-worm but never on a bike. Even with rubber cement there isn't much to grip with the thin carcasses.

This is a video of this dude that put a go pro inside a car tire that was pretty cool. Go three minutes in.

Completely your choice, I can only go on my real world experience which is about 3 plugs on this bike and quite a few on others that have all been successful.

FortNine did a pretty good video on plugs. Basically, the standard plug you just jam in there on the side of the road is pretty damn good and will hold up to anything the tire usually endures. I guess it's good practice to not do track days on them, but I know quite a few guys who still track plugged tires and never had any issues. The plug isn't going to suddenly give out, not enough pressure for that to happen.
