Does anyone know why Akra has two difference silencers options available? Other than looks, is there any difference in performance or sound? I assume both kits eliminate the cats and come with an upmap?

One is the homologated road legal one, the other are replacements for the full kit. Both are stupid expensive.

To the best of my knowledge, only the full system eliminates the cats. You don't get an upmap with it per se. Your dealer has to register the systems serial number to your VIN and prove to Ducati that its track use only then they can download the map and apply it to your bike.

I went the full Akra route on my Streetfighter V4 and wouldn't do it again nor recommend that path to anyone. I have since traded the Streetfighter for a 21 Panigale V4 S which will be kept as close as stock as possible save for folding levers, chassis protection and radiator guards, stuff like that.

No question about being stupid expensive!
From what I’ve read, the slip-on PN: 96481391A (racing version) does remove the cats and comes with upmap. I’ve seen some for sale for around $3,200 which is still silly expensive but a lot better than the full MSRP. I suspect install is pretty straightforward when compared to the full system.

Are you dead set on those slipons? Or would you consider this SC project half system CR-T Exhaust by SC-Project
Or this SC Project full system which Ive sold a few of S1-GP Exhaust by SC-Project or even the Arrow slip on Works Titanium Exhaust by Arrow If youre interested in pricing in any of these let me know. Everyone who has bought parts from me has been happy with the pricing and communication.

A slight correction to my post. There are promo photos out there which are the same that depict different products. The one you posted titled "AKRA 2" can either be the replacement racing silencers or the racing slip on. The difference is this...

With the slip on, you get that chunk after the cans. The racing slip-ons is only the cans and the price is different. For the trouble, if you're dead set on draining your bank account, I'd probably go full kit at that point. The benefit being the reduction in tubing under the seat and the reduction in heat that goes with it. The cost to benefit is a HUGE sliding scale though.

I have had three Ti full systems from Vandemon exhausts which are incredible bits of kit, and I try to support AUSSIE companies whenever I can and Vandemon is just that... While waiting for the V4SP I have ordered to show up, I have got a Vandemon full Ti system (which includes nice Carbon Fiber lower fairing panels) sitting in a box ready to go on. Never having owned a Ducati I made some grave assumptions that it would be a similar process to the other bikes I have fitted full systems to. When I got the full system for my H2 I just took the bike to my normal tuner and he fixed the tune. Now when I asked the Ducati dealer how much to put this Vandemon system on and tune it he was all like "where's the tune?" and that's when I found out about the closed shop ........ going on with overpriced Akro/Termi crud.... I am determined tho and have just read the 29 page epic Brentune thread (wow ..lol) ... seems to be my options now are 1) Brentune 2) T800 and if I want to keep it local down under 3) Tune boy...... is there any other Aussie on here that have had a dyno tune on a V4 from Tuneboy in Sydney?

I'm going to be running a slightly modded sytem on my 1299 using the VD header pipes and went with Tuneboy as well. Have mostly been using it for the cruise control thus far. I can't comment on V4 tuning or Wayne's dyno just yet as I haven't made it that far but will be going to see him as soon as I can once my bikes reassembled.
Apologies, I didn't answer any of your qn's but just chiming in to acknowledge our thought processes are probably similar in this department...

Congrats on the V4SP, very nice.

Hey awesome mate, thanks for the intro - please keep me in mind after your day there - I am in Brisso so will make the trek down if it goes well for you - I pretty much am set on finding a full dyno tune solution rather than these flash box things....

@2HYPR Actually Protech in Port Macquarie are trained up with all the tuneboy software now too. Save yourself a bit of a drive. Plus there’s some awesome roads to ride if you go from port across to Walcha, back to Armidale & Dorrigo then up. Just did it all last weekend.

I might even head there to get it done if it’s too much of a wait to get into Hornsby.

What’s the eta on your Pani?

I would be surprised if anyone made a slip on with the cat still inside

That's just the thing heard nothing...they said they (the dealer) were guessing but hoping the end of March - maybe April...

I have a house in Eastwood so coming all the way down is no prob as long as you lot don't start coughing up the plague again ( :) )

We go up to Dorrigo as well... and the Oxley.. A long lap is down the coast Overnight at Coffs.. do Dorrigo range and back to Coffs then on the pip/sleep.. then down to Port out to Walcha return back to Brisvegas inland thru Armidale Tenterfield etc stop when tired...

Can't wait for some stable normality so we can come down for a bit of SMSP - onto the Island then to the Bend and back... there were 5 of us all ready to go when Bat Flu hit....

Very keen on hearing how you go.... the Vandemon systems are so much better than that Akro stuff.. side by side it stands out like anything (weld porn) ..I reckon it's worth the hassle because from what I have read the Akro and factory upmap etc still runs .... anyway....and so freakin expensive!

Anyone understand the warranty issues going with non-Akro? One dealer told me Akro was the only system supported by the warranty.
Do they mean the bike or the cans?

i could see them saying some dumb .... like this since akra is a Ducati sold brand which makes no sense cause Ducati was termi forever. Just depends who you know and how your dealer wants to take care of you. Bunch of crap in my eyes, I work for a European car dealer and we warranty crap all the time for people, and there running stage 3 tunes!! Engines, trans, turbos, all covered cause they don’t want to piss the customer off.

The minute I said to the dealer - No it's ok mate got the exhaust sorted that was the first thing that came out of his mouth - You will Void your warranty - I just said only after Ducati prove that the modification has caused the failure - so for example, if the brakes no good, or QS fails, etc would expect cover. If the motor blows up because it is leaned out by a .... tune I would not even ask them to cover...hence me wanting a dyno tune not a generic flash from a nintendo. But big bang warranty claims are always going to be a .... fight

Hey bp: Sorry for the thread revival, but could you elaborate on why you would not recommend the full Akra system route to anyone? Just on price and possibly having to get a Ducati dealer to do it, or are some other issues?
Andrew

It’s dated advice which reflected the way I thought about it at the time but is still relevant today I suppose. Cost, install cost if you aren’t doing it yourself, having to sort out a tune since dealers will make you jump through hoops especially if you buy and install it yourself are all reasons I’d recommend someone get the Termi slip-on which comes with a tune and air filter over the full Akra.

I have the full Akra on my bike. I bought a new kit on eBay from an east coast dealer for just under $3,400. At that price, it makes more sense. I was using it with the Termi slip-on tune, but ended up getting one from Duessen Engines, which was an improvement. The bike is a monster for sure.
