ANOTHER annual service question.

I know this gets asked here a lot, so apologies for a repeat.

My 2021 V4 was (annual) serviced May, 2022. Has only been ridden for a little above 600 miles/1000 kms since. In short spirited bursts (30-50 km / 18-30 miles). About 300kms / 186 miles were novice track miles (nowhere close to WOT).

Was in (heated) storage over the winter (Nov - Feb ... 4 months).

I am deciding if I should skip the annual service this year. Not because of money. But mostly because I am starting to care too much for the bike to trust just anyone. Basically yet to find a Ducati mechanic/dealer I truly trust. Someone always misses something. Either they forget about the chain or leave a bolt loose. Or take shortcuts.

Too much of a novice/rookie to do it myself. (I worked a bit on my R7+R6 but nothing too crazy on those bikes either (chain tightening + fairing replacement)).

Inputs?

sounds like a good time to get some experience on this type of thing yourself. i would change the oil, oil filter, and flush your clutch and brake fluids. check your chain tension, but it is prolly unchanged and doubtful its stretched much in 600miles. remember loose is way better and safer than too tight. if anything, fail on the loose side buddy

I'd also clean off the stock lube, dry, and apply some motul or chain wax.

you can do this man! nothing difficult here! whats your location?

Hah I hear ya. Thanks.
Cleaned+Lubed the chain the other day. Measured the tension just now ... 30 mm (instead of 23-25 mm that Ducati recommends)

A few oil change tips…

The oil filter cover can be a little finicky if you have never removed it before. Take the 3 bolts out, then you need to install 3 different sized bolts (M8 x 1.25 if I remember correctly) in the same holes to back the cover out. Don’t try to pry it off with a screwdriver.

Put some sort of splash shield between the drain plug and the exhaust before you pull the plug. The first bit of oil that comes out will end up all over the exhaust if you don’t. I use a piece of cardboard.

Also, let your bike drain for a couple of hours, the oil flows into the catch pan forever. Let the bike sit for a couple of hours before you check the sight glass, the level in the glass will keep rising.

And when you fill it up, go very slowly. It takes forever for what you put into the fill hole to show up in the sight glass. I usually fill until I see oil at the bottom of the sight glass and then let it sit overnight and then top up to the low line. Again let it sit for a few hrs before adding anymore

Adjusting the chain, is easier on the V4 than any other bike.

Loosen the hub pinch bolts, adjust hub with C spanner.

Check tension, retighten hub pinch bolts (25Nm). It is important to use a torque wrench.

If, you want to be super anal, check ride height before, and after, adjusting.

its 25Nm for the 1299..per service manual...but agree, i do 20 as well...and i do 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 2

(manual says 1- 2 - 1, but i dont think thats enough personally...either way...no issues yet

You can order nylon M8 bolts to thread into and pry off the oil filter cover from McMaster Car for cheap. They don’t cause any markings at all.
Such a good idea! Looks like you can get nylon bolts on Amazon too (w Prime shipping)

Small Parts .8C25HCSNB Hex Head Screw, Nylon, External Hex, M8 x 1.25 mm Thread, 25 mm Long (Pack of 25) https://a.co/d/8YsMmQc
