Another R&G rad guard story

1 hour - an absolute steal !

Wish I had done that in hindsight.

I have now removed the front wheel to so I could remove the whole rad assembly. Much happier with it off as I can fit up the guards and rads easily and dremmel the grommet slots to take both the guards and the rad in the rubber grommets(the supplied instructions suggest jettisoning the grommets as they don't fit without a small trim to the slot). Also much less chance of damaging the rads as they shift around attached to the bike.

Most maddening thing though: the DP front stand I have is not tall enough to allow the front wheel to clear the guard !!! FAIL!

This seriously has turned in to the job from hell - going to cost me my Sunday morning ride now !

11:30pm - just put Pani to bed after most of the day installing the RG rad guards. They look fantastic and fit well in the end but I highly recommend taking the whole radiator assembly out and fitting the guards with room to move to prevent damage to the rads and to get the fit just right. Wish I had done that right from the start.
Satisfaction was worthwhile in the end and it was one way to get to know her a bit!

I got the dealer to put on Warp Speed, I know some people don't like the fixing method but these have been fantastic for me and good as new after 7500km, no problem with heat.

Welcome to warp speed.net.au

Agree they look the dogs when installed but .... what a lot of work when the Evotechs simply bolt on. I'm glad I got mine on but doubts if I would do it again? Nice job.

I personally like the honeycomb machined look of the Evotechs more, and the Evotechs do not make contact with the radiator other than the mounting points, thus offering a space cushion from flying rocks impacting. JMO. But for you all who like to get to know your bikes in depth, I can see why this would be a cool upgrade. Cheers.

Installed Upper and Lower Evotech radiator guards...took total of 7mins to install both...simple job!

Got my lower at Commonwealth Ducati, and the top one at SportMotoGear. Neither had both in stock. You can order straight from Evotech in UK too.

I think Shifttech has them too, but I can't remember. I did the direct order from Evotech in the UK and I thought the shipping was reasonable and really fast too. That second picture above pretty much makes me laugh out loud. I can't believe anybody would go through that much work unless they already had the bike apart for something else. Just look at all those tools! The Evotech is one hex key and a couple minutes. I hear people say they "love the OEM look", but come on, who is crawling around under the bike between the front tire and the radiator and looking for the presence of two attachment points for the rad guard. :)

Got me thinking after reading this thread whether to purchase something like this. I like the idea of the Evotech ones as it is self fit rather than the R&G which seems more involved..

I can understand the bottom rad cover but would stones really flick up to the top rad?

Jury still out for me as I have other protection to sort out yet

LOLOLLOLOLOLOLOLO

i still laugh that people buy this system
im sure it may look nicer to some people
gold - titanium

but 1-2 hour service charge to install a rad guard?

its like saying i bought a special rear shock cover that took me 2 hours to install

its 4 bolts with evotech
and its not that mesh crap
wake up people

im not trying to offend people that have them now
but with this much information on this subject its not funny
just that new owners need to make a decision better based on what your geting

kwack bottom is enough to be honest but will look out of place if you look closely if you dont have the top.
if you need proctection for rad guard and you MUST. get the bottom rad
1 stone can ruin a whole day and even $500+ to replace
i dont think anything touchs the top and if so you just have serious bad luck

I think BlueBear is right. I have only the bottom Evotech on both my bikes and my tops still look really good (even on my SF which is at 23k miles). The bottom on my SF got really chewed up because I had no rad guard for the first 20k miles. Luckily I didn't have a catastrophic failure, but I did have two pinholes that I had to have repaired. If you want the consistency and extra protection two is probably better than one. The top on the Pani is so hard to see though that I don't notice it so it doesn't bother me.

Well it bothers me that your radiator looks lopsided, and I think you should add the top part just to appease me. And while at it, replace those crappy EVOs with the more elagant/effective RG ones like mine.

lol.. It probably bothers you that my bike is dirty and sees rain too. :)

On the Pani the lack of matching is hidden by the fairings since you have to really work to see the top radiator and the SF has black radiators so even though it has no fairings it blends in real well.

Case in point, very difficult to photograph the upper install! :)

The Evotech look best IMO, it does not interfere with the fitment of original parts (ala pinching the retainer holes, or pressing against the radiator and front frame), it is hexagonal pattern aircraft aluminum powder coated black. You simply have to see them in person and you will know that the Evotechs are the most thought out of all the ones available today. They look the best too, IMO, unlike the R&Gs stuffed and pinned up against the radiator and trim. Over 95F ambient ride today in city traffic in the midday sun with little wind, my bike reached over 212F but the fans held it steady at around there. Bike still not worn in yet so expect higher temps, but no problems whatsoever with the Evotechs. In the distance the mountain is burning, putting some ash all over the city, It is simply hot today, and the Panigale dealt with it just fine. Me however, I have some red marks on my knees. Need to get proper riding leather pants. Crazy!
