Any high end Bluetooth helmet options?

I have the Scala G9. I mainly use it for GPS but will also listen to music when I commute on the bike. Sound quality is pretty good, I havent quite figured out the voice commands yet other than turning music on and off. I did notice that when I have my cell phone in my jacket pocket, the bluetooth will cut out if I have my RFID badge for work in between my phone and helmet.

I have the Scala G9, as well. VERY happy with it. Very happy, use if for music, phone and GPS. In, fact on long trips, I have used the GPS and music with zero issues and I have an Aria Vector for longer trips & I can hear clearly with the visor open.

Zero complaints. The rider to rider connect works, REALLY well & I would definitely buy another G9, if needed.

I ended up with the Cardo Q3 as it has everything I require in terms of rider to passenger and bike to bike intercom plus many other features. Great that it also links up to other Cardo models, like my son's G4 now superseded my the G9. I find the Q3 to be of good value. They've come a long way in this field.

Are there any of these systems that have the ability to plug your own earphones into rather than using their built-in helmet speakers?

I've used the Scala product in my arai's. The G4 and G9 are both similar and both perform quite well. People can't tell I'm actually riding but it does sound a bit "hollow" is what I've been told (like you're in a cave). I imagine thats a function of the news reduction, but they hear no engine noise or anything else, so its NR function must be pretty good. .

I've also used the Schuberth units, which are essentially Scala units (made by Scala for them). Unfortunately they dont' make one for an SR1 which is my preferred helmet, but only have it for the S2 and C3 units. . But if either of those helmets if your preferred riding one, the integrated Scala units are functional and quite nice and no dongle sticking to the side of your helmet.

Do you manage to get anything under/inside the SR1? It's a very snug fit for me and I can't imagine how it would work...

have never tried installing in my sr1's - only in the arais I previously had. . And I agree with you on the snug fit, but I would bet that it would fit into the sr'1 without too much trouble.

Has any body tried the UCLEAR HBC100 or HBC200 with the boomless microphone ? I have seen it advertised in some of the UK bike mags and it gets some decent reviews on the web, apparently based on military technology ? will be riding down to DWW in July with a passenger and would like decent comms, have a Scala G4 but do like the idea of no boom mic in the helmet ??

jarel, no but there is some woman out there that will modify the g4/g9 scala units to adapt it to a headphone jack where you can plug your own headphone into. . I haven't done it so can't give you any insight, but I know some scala riders have converted the units to accept headphone plugs by changing to a jack.

Found one thanks to someone on the 899 forum!! Sena SMH10R has an optional earbud adapter cable, part# SC-A0305. Ordered - on the way! Now I can use my custom-molded earbuds on the highway intead of the in-helmet speakers where I get as much wind noise as I get music. :)

+1 on the latest sena product. Functions well, easy to use, can switch helmets without too much pain. I dont listen to music but you want something bt and loud its a must if you need a radar detector unless you depend on the visual like mark parnes. Battery seems to run forever and buying by the set is cheaper your passenger will appreciate.

jerel - actually the g9x has removable plug for using your own earbuds. . though I think you need a 90degree headphone jack for clearance purposes. .. So you can use sena or scala now with your own earbuds.

Thanks, I went ahead and ordered another Sena SMH-10R with the earbud adapter and will give that a try.

Which custom IEMs do you have? I just received my first pair this week and I don't know how it is I've lived this long without them!

You want the best ? Jerry Harvey's line but adapted to low profile for motorcycle usage. hearingdynamics.net

They are jerry harvey audio units (at Custom In-Ear Monitors | In Ear Monitor | JH Audio), but most in-ear monitors stick out of the ear and cause discomfort with the helmet. the hearing dynamics with jhaudio works to create a lower profile unit.

For those that don't know Jerry Harvey is the creator/founder of Ultimate Ears (now owned by logitech professional) that essentially revolutionized in ear monitors for professional musicians. He has now started his own in-ear audio monitor company at Custom In-Ear Monitors | In Ear Monitor | JH Audio. . keep in mind - these are the full on professional audio monitors and are certainly overkill while riding a motorcycle - but they are amazing.

So I installed the Sena in my helmet yesterday and must say had a tough time doing that correctly. Once on I synced it up to my cell phone which went smooth enough, desoute the manual saying you can BT it using Headset or Hands Free - I never saw these choices at all.
Tried it out in my living room with both making a call and listening to music via BT on Android phone. Both of these worked ok and were clear. Also hooked it to Ipod using the included wire and it also sounded pretty decent there too. Now the true test!

Went outside and got it all synced up and told my wife to call me on it. While driving I clearly heard the incoming call beep and pushed the take call button on the back. At low speed she said she could hear me fine and couldnt even hear the sound of pipes or engine AT ALL which i thought was wild. As I picked up speeds I began to have a hard time hearing her unless she spoke up loud- and even at 70 he said she couldn't even tell I was on a bike, hearing no engine, wind, or exhaust sounds. Thumbs up there!

After the call I went into music mode and must say I had a difficult time hearing the music even when both cell and Sena were cranked all the way up. Def not great quality stereo sound at all which pissed me off. I also tried using the cellular GPS function which is an audible turn by turn voice system which totally faded out under engine and exhaust noise. Very disappointing.

Went back home and took Sena advice by adding the velcro pads to the back of the speakers to get them closer to my ear itself. They are almost out so far they irritate my ears. Went out for another ride and did not find this mod to be much help whatsoever. I am not impressed and wish there was a way to get more wattage in this system so music and voices can be heard louder and not drowned out by wind and bike noise. I hope they let me return this thing for at least a merchandise credit of some sort, even though the sales rep said they cant do that with electronic items. WTF over?
I didnt even hook up the other unit to my wifes helmet to try the intercom system, which was a primary idea when I bought this. Now I wonder if any other system has more volume to make this worth a swap of any sort.?

Needless to say I am not happy even though every review of this Sena SMH10 is off the charts. Yes it is easy to use with the jog wheel, I even changed tracks on the music with very simple touch/twist. But the volume is the main issue for me. Maybe I did end up losing some hearing between all the artillery, mortars, ied's and bombs over the course of my lifetime. Oh well. There is my reviews folks. Thanks for all your input and assistance!

i have the sena SM10R version and I have zero issues hearing it and this is riding with ear plugs and full Akra system, the volume goes very high and i never need to have it on full volume so i would take another look as a wire may be loose or else the SM10R version is set up slightly different but i cannot imagine that being the case or at least having such a drastic impact.

Also i'm using it with an AGV GP Tech helmet which is very loud, wither way it sounds like a fault.

I have a set of custom Westone CR-1's. We sell them at our store. The only "downside" to them, if you want to call it that, is that they are very isolating, you don't get much ambient noise at all. It's absolutely awesome on the highway, you can ride all day with no fatigue and you don't have to turn your music up loud to hear it. Around town, I have to really keep the music volume low so I can still hear traffic noise, otherwise the music will mask it and I won't hear the traffic. I also use them in my bicycle and they're great for that too, keep all the wind out of your ears.

Ha. So funny you should mention... My new custom IEMs that I'm in love with are no other than JH Audio Roxannes. The only downside to these 12 driver beasts is that they are so sensitive that the noise floor on a standard headphone jack (be it phone, laptop, or workstation) is painfully apparent, so I have to use an external DAC/Amp. But it is sooooooooo good. Jerry Harvey is a master of his craft, and he rides too... He was talking to me about a cafe racer he is building.

Ha. Yes. I would absolutely not try and get his top of the line units for riding. I am about to get the midline low profile units with custom 12" 90 degree pigtail to connect to the new scala g9x for my riding helmet. I have iem back to the ultimate ears days when he was there.

Didn't know he ride but do know that the low profile ones work perfectly because the standard ones stick out just a bit to cause discomfort in the helmet
