Might be one of the last weekends of the year, the weather will be manageable if cold at 50 degrees, but it will be dry.

I'm thinking bright and early up around Bear Mtn / 301. Let me know if you're game and we can coordinate on a launchpad.

Damn that's a 2hr 50 min ride there. Hmm.. Thinking.

It's certainly worth the ride in the spring, summer and early fall. Hell, even the FBF guys head up that way, as it's the closest spot to where roads start to get really good.

But in tomorrow's weather, that's a lonnnnng way...

Yeah. I just had a procedure done on my arm so I will skip it. But I will def come up in the spring and beat the tires down with you. but I ride all year as long as no snow and ice on the roads.

If you are ever up in the Catskills near exit 18 & 19 on the NY Thruway I will take you on a spirited ride through our twisties with 30 degree grades. I have yet had anyone on a 1199 keep up, but then again they weren't riding a Superleggera!

I will definitely take you up on that! Though given how cold it was yesterday it may have to wait until the spring.

As for keeping up, well... I'm certainly cautious on public roads I'm not familiar with, but give me a few laps to learn where the hidden driveways, oncoming left-handers, gravelly turns, etc. are found and I'll give you a run for your money - or at the very least will make sure you are not bored :)

I recently got shown a great road up and around Monticello. It's roughly 23 miles of decent twisties. If we get an unseasonably warm day any time soon I'll drag some of you sob's up there.

Excellent!!!

I agree, it is getting cold but when it is warm these roads are the best I have ever ridden. The risk now but not in Spring are leaves, and just the other day my front tire for that split second hit some leaves and I faded into the other lane, yikes.

I agree, you need to become familiar with the roads. Each route, point A to point B is around 40miles and can be done in less than half an hour in gears 2-3-4, so it is possible to do the route a couple of times each way. I never ride roads without a center yellow line(s) and the most extreme roads have no residential driveways. Definitely, no gravel and I never ride turns fast unless I can see through them. Because these roads are not well trafficked, you have the roads to yourself and very very rarely see police. Because I have a home/farm in the Catskills I never try to out race the police but rather I stop for flashing lights and/or slow down if I think the police are chasing me. This respect for the Police is what has kept me out of trouble and usually I get a ticket for bald tires rather than a speeding ticket :)

I look forward to riding with you and anyone else who wants to have a spirited ride on some challenging twisties. I am happy to host a ride/event this coming Spring/Summer!

Until then, ride safe...

301 is a great road......have fun but be cautious- cops are well aware of the speeding bikers thru that area!
