Because the new R1's ergos are much better than than our beloved 1199 and that pisses me off because I Love my Pani but F--K!!!! if the Japanese could design a bike that Handles great, is fast, looks decent with good ergonomics why can't Ducati?

With my 1098R as comparison, I think the 15 R is a total sofa.
The only sports machine I have owned which was easier on the body was KTMs RC8.

I'm pretty sure the new R1's ergos have changed in favor of track performance indicating that it is indeed a tradeoff...

Or were you talking about the old bike?

2015, I am referring to Street friendly ergos where most of us spend time on,simply better.

Sounds like a personal preference thing then.

In my case I think the Panigale's ergos are perfectly fine for the street but the xx98 bikes are WORLDS better on the track thanks to the longer reach to the bar being more spacious/comfortable for people that aren't your typical 5 foot something Italian.

What about the R1 is "better"?

Compared to my 999 the Pani is orthopaedic and my 999 compared top my 916 is also orthopaedic

The riding position is less fatiguing(slightly more upright), wider fairing, better seat, more room.
Could be a personal preference.Try to sit on a new R1, Im curious to know what others think as it could be "me" 6'0 220 lbs. When I went from my 09 R1 to the Pani back in 2012 I noticed less comfort but the Pani was such a better bike on all levels that I forgave the less comfy riding position but now that the 2015 R1 does everything as good or better than my 1199 Its a tougher decision now which one to choose.

Personal preference.

My 1199 rides like a sofa cruiser compared to the 748 I had previously. 400 mile days are easy. The 748 was a torture rack after 150 (though I loved that bike). If you're looking for Sport-Touring ergonomics you're on the wrong bike.

Hello, I'm also interested in how comfortable the 1299 will be on longer rides. I've yet to sit on one, but hopefully next week my dealer will have one in. I'm currently on an 08 CBR1000. Can anyone compare? Another similar question for S owners, with the electronic suspension in its softest mode, how is the bike on rough roads? Can you create a custom setting that is softer than stock? And lastly, still relating too comfort, has the excessive heat issue I've been reading about been improved or was this just on early pani models? Is this a bike you would consider taking on a three day trip, 12 hours a day? I currently do that once a year on the CBR and find it fine as long as I'm in shape. Thanks

I've found the new R better than last years.

Seat is thicker, therefore a bit higher. feels like I'm a bit further over the tank if anything.

Currently running the suspension in flat, compared to progressive on last years bike and it still feels comfier. Could be the mechanical suspension over the electronic set up though.

If you put the 899 OEM seat on the 1199, you have the same ergonomics as on the 1299, which has the same seat as 899 (except wind protection, 1299 has a wider fearing and a higher windshield).

^ +1.

And then you need to ride that thing, period. Your body will adapt and plush days are ahead. I run Race-Ohlins on both ends and while on a road trip last summer, I burnt out a GS rider every day for five days in a row.

I was fortunate enough to ride a R1M and a R1. The only thing I like more about the R1/R1M is the position of the tank. Easy to grip the tank with the knees/thighs and to perch on. Another thing I notice is the seat height, I'm on my tiptoes on the R1 (pain in the butt when you have to back up on the slightest incline) where the 1199 I am flat footed. (6'0" 210 lbs). Knees are also in a higher riding position than the 1199 which for the street can be painful during long rides but perfect for the track. Yamaha had one thing on their mind with this bike and that's simply the track similar to the 1199 with a stiffer rear suspension, higher pegs, quick turn in but honestly i don't think it does anything better than the 1199 except smoother at lower revs/speed. Awesome bike but I truly think its a Yamaha that has just caught up with today's technology that the rest of the European exotics already have. Its no faster than the 1199/S1000RR it feels and handles more like an RSV4. I was disappointed cause this is the bike I've been looking forward to. Well I hope the RSV4 RF is something special this year and I'm looking forward to that one instead.

the 1199 was far and away the most comfortable cruiser of any superbike i've ever ridden. i just hope the 1299 is more of the same...

Its a SPORTSBIKE for goodness sake, Comfort is the last consideration when they design these things. Speed and agility are higher up the design list. All these guys complaining about ergos, should sell their panis and buy Monsters or hyperstrada's!!

Yes it's a sport bike, but I want the best of both worlds! The last long trip I went on the guy on the Bmw adventure bike was worn out much more than I was on the sport bike. As long as it's twisty and I'm moving around im fine. It's those long freeway slabs, or bumpy goat roads that wear me out. I'm much more interested in electronic suspension for the purpose of making bumpy roads more manageable without sacrificeing performance when you get to the good turns, than I am for top performance. I don't think many are racing on electronic suspension so it must not be better than traditional as yet. So.. How does the 1299 feel on the soft setting on those goat roads?

i have a monster and a multi. but that doesn't mean i want my panigale to hurt my bones after riding it a few hundred miles. the 1199 is actually comfier for me than the multi somehow. so is the monster. but one thing the OP, and many others, seem to forget. all humans come in different shapes and sizes!

so YMMV. i doubt the R1 is going to be super awesome for me at 6'4" and all legs. the HP4 wasn't, the RSV4 sure as hell isn't. but the 1199 is roomy and laid out right FOR ME. hope the 1299 is too... is that wrong of me?

I liked the 1199 ergo's much more than the Ape, Kawa, R1, and Honda. Unless the R1 is extremely far removed from the previous model R1, I don't see how it could feel better than a 1911.

I thought the BMW was nice enough.
