Are Ergonomics any better on the 1299?

I have to say the 1199 is the most comfortable performance bike I have ever had the pleasure to put my arse on.

Mind you, that is after getting the Comfort seat ;)

Its a SPORTSBIKE for goodness sake, Comfort is the last consideration when they design these things. Speed and agility are higher up the design list. All these guys complaining about ergos, should sell their panis and buy Monsters or hyperstrada's!!

I somewhat agree with your comment in principal (which is why I have a Triumph Sprint ST for long distance trips and typically ride the Grom around town).

BUT...ergos do play a factor in sportbikes also. I had a 1098S, raced it for 2 weekends, and shitcanned it. It was by far the most uncomfortable thing I had ever sat on. At the time I still had a bunch of hardware in my left wrist and simply couldn't handle it.

Not to mention ergos come into play when trying to get your body in a stable position for braking, being able to get your body into position mid-corner, etc. That is the whole reason for adjustable rearsets, levers and clip-ons.

So while I understand and agree with your point in principal, ergos are important on sportbikes also. :)

The 1199 is narrower and an easier bike to ride because of it. New R1 has great ergos, a great riding position and I enjoyed riding it but it can't be as good if you ask me because it's always going to be a fat IL4 and is always going to be a lot wider by default.

It also has the typical Japanese you can lean all the way back as if you're bloody 7' tall cockpit length which just annoys me, can never judge where you're at because there's too much length in the cockpit and you slide to far backwards.

If you put the 899 OEM seat on the 1199, you have the same ergonomics as on the 1299, which has the same seat as 899 (except wind protection, 1299 has a wider fearing and a higher windshield).

Are you saying a comfort seat from an 899 will fit on the 1299?

Thanks,

B

the 1299 has the comfort seat from the 899 on it. that's one of the changes they made

Because the new R1's ergos are much better than than our beloved 1199 and that pisses me off because I Love my Pani but F--K!!!! if the Japanese could design a bike that Handles great, is fast, looks decent with good ergonomics why can't Ducati?

Why can't they? Because not all riders are built the same. I'm amazed at how comfortable I am on the Panigale. On the other hand I rode a S1000RR and hated the ergos.

I am 5'11 and I find the thinner Panigale seat is much more comfortable than the wide seat of the 2015 R1. The R1 makes for a bit of pressure/discomfort on the inner legs, which also doesn't allow for your feet to get as low to the ground. While the Pani's thin seat allows for your feet to reach a little longer and also allows for less pressure on the inner thighs. There are obviously other things that come into consideration such at seating position...etc. but that's my obvious observation. Pani is likely to be rougher than the R1...those japanese motors are a bit smoother and refined, however styling is light years behind. My assessment is simple...16,500 plus a mandatory exhaust upgrade, no single-sided swing-arm, no full fairing, no test rides...not style, they can keep it.

Makes me wonder what sort of people are buying these bikes sometimes .

Uhhh, maybe people who actually want to go out and ride them as opposed to just parking them in their living room and bragging to the guys at work that they own a Ducati.

Ergos are easily fixed with aftermarket rearsets, clip-ons and levers.

As far as the seat, I like a taller/thinner/more "triangular" shaped seat. I don't want the edges of the seat pressing on my inner thighs. A seat that is more round is easier to transition side to side on, and is more comfortable when hanging off.

I will normally take my seat to an upholstery place and have them add 1/2"-3/4" of foam to the seat, but have the extra foam pad stop about 1.5" short of the sides. Then when the seat cover is stretched back over, it rounds off the edges and I end up with a seat that is taller in the middle and more rounded.

Thanks for all the responses! Id like to add:
Ive logged 10k miles in 2 1/2 years,
Mostly highway as very few curves here in So Fla.
All bikes have pros and cons and none are perfect.
Too bad there aren't more adjustments in ergos as we are all built differently
and riding conditions are different all around the world.
This bike has many more pros than cons but there ARE cons.I am using this bike for its opposite purpose, straight line top speed runs/Cruising long distance. Not the track where she was designed for.Despite that, I still enjoy riding her with my sport bike buddies on Sunday mornings(about 5-10 other bikes usually showing up) 150 mile round trip for me.
I will not ride this bike around town as she is not happy doing so.My analogy:
"Over 100mph,best bike in world, Under 100, the worst"
Just my opinion.

Good for you. You and I are on the same pace. I just passed 2 years at 8,000 miles. And for me it's still the least ridden of my three bikes. Every time I wonder if I really need it as a third bike I go out and ride it and wonder why I would ever sell it. I retire in about four years and had thought I might sell it then. But as of right now I don't even see selling it then.

Only a meager 60 miles yesterday after I picked her up before dark. I am 6'2" and I will say ergo's are much better than the 1199. The 1199 always wanted to throw me forward due to the sloped plane of the seat. My 1299 did not do that once. 60 miles of on/off throttle to keep load in the rings and not a problem.

my 2cents.

Thanks, My buddy will show up for tomorrows ride on his 1299, I will try to ride it as I love the 1199 but need better ergos for my size frame(6'0 225 lbs, 49 years old LOL)
