Comparison coming out? I am guessing no, unless a generous SL Owner is willing to lend one to a magazine? Or is the bike to expensive and exclusive to be compared to the many lesser bikes out there? Just wondering...

The Desmosedici was more expensive and more exclusive than the SL, and it ended up in many magazines and videos. Surely there are press bikes already making the rounds and the PR is scheduled to hit around the same time, sometime soon.

I watched Cook Nielson crash one at Putnam Park during a magazine test!

Nit: The Desmosedici was strictly one-third as exclusive as the SL

(Otherwise I agree with your point and general sentiment - we will see reviews soon I suspect)

+1

Fbto you have good timing. Journalists are testing the SL yesterday (14th) and today, at Mugello.

Sweet! Do you know what they are comparing to? Other 1199 versions? Other European bikes? Any and all comers?

The HP4, RSV4, and the 1199R/S would be cool. It's going to be disappointing if the roided up 1199 still is off HP4 pace.

Depends upon what you mean by pace. Most reviews I've seen of the R against an HP4 had them about even on the track or maybe a couple tenths either way in lap time. The SL would seem to have about 10% more performance than an R on a track, so that should tip the scales in its favor. Quite a bit more resources though to get to that point...

You probably guessed that I'm in the process of making a SL vs HP4 & Panigale R comparison video. I promise not to include biased comments and remarks in this video. It will include side by side comparison, riding impressions, etc. I should have it completed in 3 weeks.

You are getting an SL also? Or just borrowing one? As much as I enjoy your videos and excitement, these bikes are so close yah it needs some precise tools for a detailed comp. But looking forward to your impressions.

Having less weight and more power doesn't by itself make a better track weapon. I mean they are critical factors, but how much of it is useable will be the key. It will be interesting to see the outcome.

Disagree slightly, light weight is ALWAYS better no matter what, but more power is not always better.

I am assuming the outright horsepower wont be as important as the difference in the way the bike works. It like the 1199S VS the 1199R, the R just works better even though on paper its not that much different.

There isn't really much of a power difference between the S and R though... sure a little bit thanks to the extra revs but it's not like the 20ish HP the SL may be up on the rest of the 1199s.

If journalists insisted that the 1199 was a handful (check out any 899 review and you'll likely see that complaint) then the SL has to be very nearly unrideable for them.

Hopefully the anti-wheelie and new TC system will keep it in line!
