Australian Ducati 1199 recall

Yeah - unfortunately they are that far away from me it isn't feasible considering the hours I work - can only just get it into the city store and be back at work early enough

Take a rec day off at Easter and get it done by pre-arrangement?

Yeah - it's probably going to end up like that - I've got a some stuff on order from Bellisimoto that is apparently going to take a few weeks - so Easter is probably when I'll aim for.

Gents,

I'm still offshore at the moment and haven't seen the letter. Is it just the switch block itself that needs changing or is it wiring loom?

Thanks

It's a small supplementary wiring loom which relocates the flasher unit outside of the dash which effectively makes the unit inside the dash redundant.

I had mine in for more heat shielding (right thigh getting medium to well done) which they replaced with full carbon job and they fixed the indicator problem at the same time. Frazers at Wollongong..
Two other things for comment: Firstly, does anyone see traces of moisture behind the dash screen particularly when direct sunlight hits it...?
Secondly: Cops gave me a defect (Royal National Park, Stanwell Tops) for my fender eliminator. They said the Plate was not far enough back acting as a "rear fender or mud guard" he also didn't approve of the L.E.D's in the tail vents.
He didn't fine me but gave me a defect to fix in seven days so I put the old bulky ...... back on......bummer....they are all over it ATM.

I got pinged a few months back about the fender eliminator as well. I have the DP one. All I got was "it isn't to standard". When I pressed him for "what is the standard" he couldn't explain. So I asked him for his badge number and Name as I would take civil action against him for the $271 defect notice in South Australia for something that is Ducati genuine and fitted by the bike shop (by now I was just sprouting ........). He promptly told me to .... off and get on my way...fine eliminated.

I think I was extremely lucky:rolleyes:

Here in NSW is we have 2 different Stds - one for RTA and one for the HWY Patrol. Mate got defect first day out on his new 119 - took it to RTA and they rekoned it was fine lol, comes down to who got ... that week ':) .... I dont think the HP ever get any cos they are always so grumpy ... or is it that they couldnt get into the real Police Force lol.

I got mine today! After taking it for specifically that issue.
They also fitted a Puig screen.

I fitted my own dark screen last night...What a mind fu*k. Whole front fairing has to be removed. Hidden bolts that were different to the others. Thank god for a bodgy utube instruction.
The fairings aren't good quality for a $30,000 bike. Getting the blinker wire plugs back in the assembly was really a challenge. The windscreen bolts "star or torx" were odd.
Lastly I dropped a screw down the front and it vanished...........
Very frustrating night....but I did learn so I can advise if you need help.

Yea I have a new screen I havnt put on yet as I heard you have to remove the whole front fairing (WTF) If you have any pointers then yes fire away :) Might do mine before I go down to the Island in April 23/24 - join us if you want, there will be 4 other Ducs going from Sydney

cheers

I practically get pulled over every time I ride in the hills around Melbourne. Last week the cop actually waved through a "P" plater and asked me to stop. Usual questions, answers are now automatic - no I haven't been drinking, and yes this is my bike.

Strangely never had an issue with the fender!

If you buy some spare nuts for the torn screw then unscrew the screen and let the nuts disappear.

Then glue with super glue the little rubber grommets/nuts into position on the under side of the screen and then fit. Only takes about 20 mins this way and no removing fairing.

Not my idea but a great hint that I read on this forum. I used this method to fit the DP tinted screen to my bike.:)

Ahh - so the only reason you have to take the fairing off is to save the underside screws? sigh

On my Hayabusa - Remove mirrors (4 screws easy access), remove 2 screen screws - replace screen do up screws - < 5 mins (have timed lol)

Why do Ducati have to do everything so complicated

:)

Neil Fraser Imports has issued a recall, which relates to the previous known issue of the left hand switch block indicator problem.
The recall is dated 24/2/2014.

It's effectively an upgrade in status over a previous TSB, which was issued to cover the indicator problem, and was only covered by warranty if the customer had an issue with the indicators.

We can expect official notification in the near future.

If you haven't had the supplemental wiring loom fitted yet, contact your dealer to have the work carried out.

Cheers:)

I have had problems with my left switch block (indicators/computer) from the beginning and was told by Ducati Sandton that the problem would be addressed close to the end of my warrantee period to ensure that I have the best fix available, but:
1) Ducati Sandton closed down recently as a result of being disenfranchised by the Porsche SA's take over of the Ducati franchise,
2) I had an accident in the period when Ducati Sandton was busy closing down and before Ducati Randburg (Porsche SA's Ducati arm) was open. I decided to customize my bike with non Ducati parts.
3) Ducati Randburg refuses to take over any service plans from now disenfranchised dealers and cancell warrantees if the purchasers continue to service their bikes at those dealers.
4) Ducati Randburg has cancelled my warantee due to my repair/modifications and refuse to honour any warantee claims on my bike including the pre existing switch block fault.

Oh and of course all of this is happening in South Africa.

It sounds like the worst luck indeed:mad:
I was going to ask whether you've looked at legal action, but that would of course be pretty pointless in the grand scheme of things.

Maybe this is a classic case where one just has to suck these things up.
Pick up the pieces as best you can, move forward and not look back?

There are truly silver linings to every cloud.
You just have to look harder to see some of them:(

Rest assured you will always be able to find support here on this forum;)
It's arguably the best 1199 forum:)

Life is a cruel teacher.
Carry on Sir:)
