Whenever you have some weird electrical problem, and especially after any electrical work, CHECK THE FUSES!
The motor cannot continue to run with the key turned off unless there is still a hot running to the ignition. Take the battery out and start again. Ground connected to the hot side? Until you have stopped the dash lights from coming on as the battery is connected with the key off don't start the motor. The alternator is probably ok. But you keep doing this the rectifier is going to check out if it hasn't already.
Thanks for sharing ideas. Fuses were ok.... The next day, I checked connections carefully and found one negative lead attached to the hot side of battery, (not great, but that was the horn issue). Upon connecting the battery again, the dash lit up, and the bike went through a start-up sequence, probably was the Ducati Skyhook Suspension calibrating and inflating. After that, it settled down and handlebar controls (On - Off - Start - Shutdown) worked fine.... All good after that!
