Thats the problem both your ELM's don't have the correct chip thats why nothing is working. 100% has to have the FT232 chip neither of yours has so get a ELM 1.5 or 1.4 make sure it clearly has that chip.

I can totally appreciate that about JP. My frustration is not meant to be directed at him.

I would suspect you are right in “If you have the right DDA cable, ELM, Windows thats not 20 years and a ecu license Melco simply works”

I have ruled out my DDA cable and tested it with a multimeter. I’m using a 2 year old dell with windows 10 and JP swears the license is working

that leaves the ELM

I have two of them:
PARANNIC OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner... Amazon.com: PARANNIC OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner ELM327 V1.4 USB ELM 327 with PIC18F25K80 Chip: Automotive

^people in comments for that one even claimed it works on their Ducati’s

Second one:

OBDResource ELM327 FORScan OBD2... Amazon.com: FORScan ELM327 OBD2 USB Adapter for Windows, Diagnostic Coding Tool with MS-CAN/HS-CAN Switch for Ford Lincoln Mazda Mercury Series Vehicles: Automotive

I have downloaded and tried what seems like over a dozen drivers. If any of you have either of these with a driver that works…. Please share with the class

thanks all!

I will crack them both open to verify but I think there is a TON of confusion about the FT232 chip.

The first one I sent you has a PIC18F25k80. Microcontroller chip. That does not mean it I doesn’t have the FT232.SSOP . In fact the images on the Amazon page show it has one on the bottom side of the pcb. (Though I trust nothing)

The FT232 allows for conversion of usb to serial communication. This is a single chip used wildly from anything from Daqs to arduino RX/Tx communication projects.

I am not trying to correct anyone I’m more trying to understand. I’ll be home later and crack that housing open and see if either of them really do have the FTDI FT232s in them or if they test as fake.

I have cracked open the first elm 327 v1.4

as advertised on amazon it appears to have the PIC18F25k80 microcontroller on the topside and the FTDI FT232.SSOP on the bottom side

I may have posted this link before, but here it is again. A source in the UK provides the exact cables required for use with MelcoDiag. Assuming that all else is in order, the software should function as intended. Avoid the junk from China advertised on Ebay.

Diagnostic Interface for MelcoDiag TuneECU DDA

To be fair JP did take a look at my photos. He said it’s not the cable. Halo2. Go look at the forum I linked above. He said something about my bikes computer being not properly set up.
I got a new gear position sensor I’m putting it in later tonight

may not need melcodiag to fix it but we’ll see.

Thanks Halo 2

I ended up buying a new GPS and it fixed the issue. Was. 160 dollar fix and part of me wonders if I re-taught the old one if it would fix it but I could never get the “-“ or “C” to come up. After reading yourlinked post looks like I could have disconnect the BBS to trigger it but … oh well

bike is happy again. Shame it’s rained like 14/20 days this month. Fml

thanks again all. I will continue to try to work with jp to figure out how to talk to the bike with melcodiag. I’ll post if I ever find a solution

Well that didn't work windows 7 laptop, lonelec drivers and lonelec cables still says ecu, bbs not detected and elock key number won't reset.
Does what it should makes a noise when you press reset then 30sec later another noise so should work.

Pretty sure problem with melcodiag.

So I'm trying to go down this path of having MelcoDiag to assist with maintaining my 1199. I've followed the process for getting the cables, checking the cables, downloading the ELM drivers, and downloading MelcoDiag. I have confirmed the cable is in COM port 3 on a modern Windows laptop . There is no asterik indicating an issue and have a red light, so assume the driver is working. I open MelcoDiag, connect cables and turn the bike on. I can see the box to enter the COM port in, which I do, and apparently the next step is to enter the bike year, but there is no option for this. I hit connect anyway and I see lights flashing on the ELM box a few times, but then the box returns to Connect and there is no bike data transfered. Any good suggestions. Do I just try another ELM driver? If so, any good suggestions for sources?

Weren't you the one that recommended I go down the path of MelcoDiag! :) Hopefully I can get my set up sorted.

FYI

ELM must have FT232rl chip it will not work , 100% confirmed .

Must also have the current windows driver , Mine is working on windows 10. Com 4 .

Was a pain to get it going however it works not sure how accurate it is tho

Might have..... its the only non factory diagnostic tool we have.

That’s not accurate. The TEXA scanner is state of the art and interfaces with all the DUC models in fact TEXA makes Ducati’s DDA. The TEXA unit is around 3K and gives you everything Ducati has plus some additional diag features
