Depends on how much you pay for it and how many service resets you'd be doing. Problem may pop up from time to time, its nice to be able to take care of it yourself if you're mechanically inclined.

All of the features now work on my 2021, so if you're going to keep your bike for a few years, it stands to reason all of the features will be there eventually.

ETA: It was $75 USD for an additional year of updates. It updates quite often. I don't use the device everyday, but when I do, more often than not there is an update. There's a sticker on the back with the serial number of the device. You'll need that to renew it.
