This is why I don't commute a bike, too many psychos and getting stuck in traffic is miserable. The rider in this case was lane splitting which just adds to the risk.

If I was president my penalty system would be an eye for an eye...then people may think twice about their actions vs consequences.

IF he was kicking at cars while splitting lanes that is pretty over the top - still doesn't excuse murder of course (intended or not) but as a motorcyclist on busy roads in particular you are the little guy in a sea of 4000 lb steel beasts, you have to ride defensive

Considering the source of the door kicking allegation, I'd say that claim is incredibly suspect. To my knowledge, no witnesses have corroborated that claim thus far, and if he did indeed kick the car, we have to consider the events leading up to that action. For all we know, extending his foot out may have been a last ditch attempt, possibly involuntary, to prevent the suspect's car from veering into his bike. It should be noted that the suspect has a record for careless driving, and only reacquired her license four months ago following a two-year license suspension.

Also, this case really goes beyond the scope of riding defensively. There is absolutely no way to ride defensively enough so as to anticipate and prevent someone from intentionally running you off the road, and then running you over.

I was tailgated, rammed, assaulted, had my scooter run over and was then hit and run (the scooter thankfully) by a car this morning on the way to work. All because I lane filtered to the front of stopped traffic at a red light, and the guy clearly didn't approve.

Be safe out there guys.

Whoa! Never heard of that sort of thing happening here. I never even considered that someone would get upset by a motorcycle lane splitting. I've always just done it without a second thought. I guess it shows that we can't assume people are thinking rationally. Did you get their rego? Police report? It sounds like you were very lucky and the other bloke needs to spend some time walking to consider his actions.

I hate people who try to play police. Anyone who tries to ram you and you have conceal/carry, I would draw on them.

I'm taking the word of the witness who posted on reddit (previous link)

If this witness can be confirmed, it would help corroborate this particular detail of the suspect's account; however, I would be curious to know exactly what initiated the altercation between the two parties --a detail which this witness admits to not seeing transpire. Regardless, she is likely, and by all accounts rightfully, looking at a charge of murder in the second degree.

Agreed - even if the guy did kick her car, nothing she did after that was justified. If she would have kept her cool it would have been just another day with perhaps a door ding at absolute worst.

Impulsive, short fused people who fly off the handle at the least provocation are increasingly common, it's just another sign of the times we live in, and I see it literally every day on the roads now.

Automobile drivers here in CA are crazy! I get swerved in front of at least once a week coming home from school.

Rip brother!

Maybe the intent was to bump him and not to crash, let alone kill, the rider. But who knows if they will crash or kill someone after they bump him.

Nevertheless I agree with the sentiment of the thread as far as people letting their emotions cloud their judgment and unintentionally kill people for overlooking the possible consequences of their actions.

RIP

Regardless, Bumping a bike in not cool and should be charged...

^ Yikes.

The news sites' comments sections have been interesting to follow. Several contributors have stated they know the suspect either directly or indirectly, and have mentioned she has a long history of anger management issues. I would be very interested to learn the details of her two-year license suspension.

William Touch told NBC 7 he was trying to follow the two vehicles and witnessed the vehicle "sideswiping" the motorcycle three times. "Her front bumper was literally touching the bike itself," Touch said Sunday. "She stayed right behind him and I guess clips the back tire and I guess shakes a little bit."

After the two drivers transitioned from I-5 to eastbound State Route 54 and passed National City Boulevard, Jackson hit the Ducati from behind and ran over the rider, CHP officers said.

Does California have the death penalty?

^ I dunno but i hope she gets it if they do. Also read that just just got her license back after a suspension
