Calling Shifty !!

I would really like to see a detailed post on this matter from our local member Shift Tech regarding the issue of CF for the heat shield.

Can you please provide us with some of your valuable data Shifty?? :D

We have really beat this to death. And unless someone that has been complaing/whining about the heat has tried out the new fix from Ducati, there is really nothig more to be said.

heat? what heat?

i still have some DEi heat wrap laying around. maybe i wrap a soup in it the next time when it's too hot instead of throwing an ice cube in it. ;)

EDIT:

maybe we should put up a new "new user information thread" - just about the bike, like:

- there is no heat. the bike is running at your body temperature
- the stock seat is not slippery. you just have too much hair on your ass.
- the frame won't break in a crash. it will vanish.
- carbon fiber will not make you look faster. it will make you faster. no matter if DP or bestem.

:D

Bottom line, (keep saying that), a combustible engine is hot. We are sitting practically right on top of it. You can't get rid of the heat, just move it. That is what Ducati did with their fix, it channels the heat away from the rear cylinder to behind you. Wrap, shield, coat, all day long, will not solve it.

Maybe we ought to use it to generate power?! Throw in a geothermal unit, otherwise think of all the wasted energy...

Ok guess I have to:)

We have tested the Carbon heat guard, they will not last due to the extreme heat output of the loop. With time they will burn up, starting at the mounting points and then continue all over the heat guard. It will take some time but it will happen and it happens to all brand heat guards, no matter where you got them from, with or without reflective heat tape on them.

Please don't shoot the messenger :D:D By the way, the pictured guard was with the pipes wrapped and ceramic coated and still.

The Termi full system heat guard will last much longer as it's mounted to the subframe and therefor it's sitting further away form the loop and there is no direct contact to the loop through the mounting holes.

Carbon also does not reflect the heat, it transfers it so it won't be any cooler then with the OEM guard.

The only guard that so far works is the Carbon Ceramic guard that is made by MS-Production, we have tested it and it does reflect the heat and it will last, only drawback is that it does not look " very pretty" as it's carbon/ceramic but it does it's job, just expensive it is.

How long is not long? My RC at 1500+ mi shows no damage, and is lined with foil. I guess I'll keep an eye on it. A Besteem shield I got for my K1300S looks ok, but it does get hot and has an odor. I have seen very view posts here of shields being damaged, but again, they do nothing for the cylinders.

I knew you were going to say so:), I was asked and I have done so. Your RC guard is fiberglass with a layer of carbon and yes it's a great price, may be you just ridding like an old lady and did not get any heat to it yet, just kidding:):):)

I don't judge and neither do I mention names, I only provide info. Who decides what to use is not up to me, don't want to create a huge argument on this. Sometimes retailers issue refunds based on the fact that buyers have to agree on NOT posting their issues on the web, that's why you may not see much about it........................

There is a reason why Ducati does not sell one. My recommendation is NOT to put any carbon on any part of the exhaust system on the 1199.

They need to make one for the full Termi. I have cash in hand, wtf...

My opinion? The drawback of the MS-Production guard is the unsightly plaque that is riveted onto the side....that and its cost. Get rid of the plaque and I might actually buy one. What I don't need is a fire due to a burning piece of plastic. ;)

Thanks as always, Guido

Really? You're hung up on the plaque? Idea, drill out the rivets lol.

Won't work, 80% chance the guard will break as to the high amount of ceramic in it. The plaque looks pretty good on it when you have on in your hand, that's the last thing that would bother me.

MUNDMAN picture attached. Ilmberger sells them as I don't see much of a reason to offer them, long delivery time and high price and they have a brownish tint to them, compared to other full carbon parts it stands out to much for my taste.

Those pegs aren't slippery either. Your boots are bald.

Over 99.9% of all statistics are made up on the spot, including the statistic that I just made up right now.

:D

I have the new Ducati heat shield installed and I "think" I feel the difference. I rode the bike for 20-30 minutes and I didn't feel a thing. The reason I say "think" is because that first ride with the new heat shield was not my normal ride. I'll ride it again in stop and go traffic this weekend and report back with a true opinion.

Keep in mind; opinions are like A$$holes... everyone has one.

My service guy just emailed me to let me know the new full termi head shield was in for me. I'm not doing it until he will tell me I can keep the original.
