Hi guys, my 'customizing build' is coming on well, I'll post photos when I'm done. The tank is about to come off and I would like to take the opportunity to change the air filter while its off. I know the right filter can potentially add a few bhp...any suggestions as to what might be the best filter option? Much appreciated, cheers.

Prolly get blasted for saying this but those bikes came with a good air filter from the factory so your expectations might be a lil high
1. don’t wait till yer done to post pix

Sprint is good for 3hp on the V4, and sprint is my recommendation

I am known for saying “if the air filter was the limiting factor, they would have designed the air box to have a much bigger filter. Yeah 3hp, so what? It’s easier than trying to lose 3lbs

I have the MWR street filter, no complaints. I just wanted something that was reusable, didn't care much about the performance gains. That being said i did notice a little more grunt with the aftermarket filter.

I like Sprint air filters over the MWR filters. There are different levels of Sprint air filters. But if youre not chasing championships and track the bike a few times a year I think the Sprint P08 air filter is the one to go with out of the Sprint line. Yes there are more expensive Sprint air filters. But the Spring P08 is the one to go with for what I wrote above. Its also nice and hard unlike the MWR filters which come with this aluminum shell. But the filter itself reminds me of the foam used as filters for window or wall air conditioners. The Sprint air filter can take much more of a beating when being washed. At least thats my opinion

That alum thing in mwr is a diverter

And you are not supposed to wash sprint filters

There is a lot of science involved when messing with the air box...
I wasnt too fond of that aluminum diverter with the foam filter. I felt like it would rip. Youre right about not washing the sprint air filter although I spritzed my sprint with a bottle gently and used one of those air hoses to dry and clean it out

Good loose foam gonna out flow any gauze

A bunch of racers been running them for years with no problems

Guess it depends what you are looking for...

Ease of maintenance (blow sprint from back side with air compressor)

Or CFM and a better flowing box? MWR requires cleaning solution and oil and needs to be cleaned more often than a gauze filter. No air compressor required tho : )

I like the new k&N air filter I installed on my motorcycle and I got the upgraded filter and notice a slight difference. The idle sounds a lot better. But I think it is value for money.
