I am in the market for a chain and sprocket kit now. I'm gonna stick with the stock 525 size (525, right?). Proly stick with the stock gearing too. Where have you guys found the best deals?

I say VERY good call staying w the 525 since I've personally never seen any HUGE reason to switch over. Send me your email via PM when you get a chance DLIT.

Also, any chance you can tell us the screen name story / meaning?

+1 on Sprocket Center.

I don't see a reason to stay with the 525 at all. A higher quality 520 chain would be lighter and longer lasting than an OE quality 525 chain.

Its interesting to feel the difference between the 39 and 41 rear sprockets, but I get that isn't everyone's thing. I just don't see an argument against stronger, longer lasting and lighter components.

I kind of want to try a 16T from with a 39T rear.

I've just been a believer that the skinnier chain won't last as long as the beefier one. End of the day I'm not a racer so I'm not really interested in changing the gearing from stock. I'm sure it'd feel a bit peppier though.

I once went to a 520 on my old R6 track bike. Wasn't a noticeable difference. Too late anyway, already bought the new setup from SC.

+1 on sprocket center.
I went with a 520 chain and encourage you to consider it. That, with a lightweight rear sprocket will eliminate almost 3lbs of rotating mass.
Also, I went for a 42 tooth rear sprocket to suit my local track. For road riding, you really should at least consider a 41.

Went with the 525 quick-change kit from SC. Stock gearing. I do road and track riding, only one TD on the Pani for now but I don't see the need for different gearing. I'm not trying to win races anymore, just out there for fun at this point now...and get smoother on the new (to me) bike. Seeing that I bought the quick-change kit, I'll be more inclined to try different sized sprockets though so that option's still there.

Problem is a 41T requires a longer chain. You can get away with a 39T on a chain long enough for a 41T, which is two links longer, but you will be at the upper end of the adjustment if not maxed out.

You can go down to a 14T front from the stock 15T with the same length chain as for a 39T, but the effect is closer to going to a 42T rear.
