the GOAT has spoken
Looks much better without the cross-eyed headlights. At least BMW chose a better path and decided to put out a WSBK spec bike with the matching components like the ohlins setup, gp brembo brakes and the rest of it. Even if it costs more than the SL, the additional components would help justify it better than some unobtanium akrapovic exhaust that comes on the SL. IMO, this is a much better package than the SL....even if it isn't street legal.
The superleggera is 10 lbs lighter with street trim
Imagine the difference if it was track only
Ok well this at least makes my Ducati 1299SL "..... session" a little more clear. The bike is 87k. It's not street legal. No lights, signals, emissions however those things could be added. The point I made was simple. Ducati chose again to build some gimmicks into a relatively stock bike and charge you up the ... for it. For the same money. BMW basically gave you a works bike. I see race spec materials throughout the motor and chassis. I see the good Ohlins pieces. I see the good Brembo pieces (calipers front and fear and controls). I see a legitimate electrical system and a real cooling system. Ducati chose to give you OEM parts on an 85k bike when they still could have made a hefty profit giving you the good stuff. BMW did a much better job on the wheels as well. No im not a BMW fan and I'm not particularly fond of the aesthetics of the bike but at least BMW is giving a bike where the price point is a lot more justifiable. Ducati is the hands down styling winner no question and I managed to build one as others have that works pretty well. Unfortunately the brand on the OEM side is just overpriced, in many cases, under engineered and certainly under supported by its mfg. The brand needs an overhaul at the top office. The "yes but it's a Ducati" .... is a bit dated.
