Bmw hp4

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I am not trying to start a war here with this one at all. Further more i am a very proud owner of an 1199 s ABS and the more i ride it the more i love it. I guess this is more to do with what BMW (motorcycles) does (sort of like a japanese car with all the options included opposed to a german car BMW where everything is an option). I must say I am BMW car guy. I will never drive anything else anymore and I am now a Ducati guy wont get anything else so I dont know why I am writing this but to be totally honest I am a little disappointed in the DUC experience (dont know about the bmw experience never had a bmw bike.)

I just read a first ride about the new HP4 and I was so impressed with it. Unlike when I bought the 1199 nobody rode it and then the reviews came out and they werent that great. Now i know everyone has their opinions and I know where i am posting this so dont go off and bash me.

The HP4 comes with everything. All Ti akra exhaust and active suspension damping system that adjusts to road condition adjustable foot pegs . There are 3 versions of the bike and if you want everything it will be 25k. Thats the same price as an s abs.

I guess my question is why didnt Ducati do this. They were out to change the game and it would have sold so why am I fighting to get a lower fairing with an oil viewer?

PS Its still ugly though lol

sell your ducati and buy a playstation to ride, since you're already driving one...then buy back the 1199 once all the crap that you read in the reviews will be wiped away by the results of the WSBK

seriously?

And trauma, don't you think its the pagani of all bikes? Ferraris are no comparison to a ducati. That fifth thing we needed was a zonda/huayra.

lol!

As someone that got very close to getting a Red/White S1KRR, instead of Pani, I can only say that IMO, the HP4 just has very little appeal over the standard model.

Looks wise ..... its just a bit of a mess.

Sure it goes like a missile, great, but IMO BMW can't seem to create any particular race derived kudus behind the HP4 moniker.

Wow! A lot going on there!!! No kidding. A mess indeed!

They missed an opportunity for more color... I'm thinking the wheels should alternate blue / white / blue / white. That would complete the picture!

1. not that Ducati dont want to improve upon themselves, but we need to remember that Ducati is just a boutique manufacture compare to BMW and the Jap, Ducati dont sell cars and gas generator and dont have the big corporation backing them up. yet i think they have bet everything on the line to conceive a ground breaking bike like the 1199. i tipped my hat to them.
2. for the past 10 years, every manufactures has figured out how to make good power with the inline four configuration, that's why BMW goes with that layout, Ducati on the other hand, still stick with the less traveled road, i honestly never thought a twin could rev this high, this fast with this much power. the effort to make it works is tremendous! they have all of my respect for this matter
3. i learn this by my own experience: before the 1199 comes, i was debating between the 848 evo and a CBR1000RR, i went with the CBR with all the sensible reasons, and that was a big mistake: i dont love the bike. i rode it for 8,000 miles last summer, love riding, but never have any bond/feeling for the bike. needless to say, everyone know how this 1199 make us feel!

if i want a fast/reliable/sensible appliance, the BMW make sence, but if i want THE ONE that make my heart race or skip a beat, then there is no substitute for the Panigale.

Why's that?
its not as if you own anything even remotely similar to a WSBK bike? Or can use it in an even remotely similar way?

Why can't people be happy with what they have instead of just bitching about other stuff and clinging onto to pointless things!

There's already been good points made regarding the differing philosophies of the two companies so no sense in me writing another post to pile on there.

Personally, I have a ton of respect for BMW having entered the SBK market with the S1K and nailing a lot of things with it. How many here have ridden a race-setup S1K? If you have, I'd think you'd have more respect for what they've accomplished with it. The HP4 is going to be a great bike IMO and I'll be able to validate whether that's true as a guy on my race team has one on order. From what can be gathered from ride reports the active suspension is a real accomplishment.

I think the OP was mostly hitting on the point that the HP4 includes many options such as gilles rearsets, heated grips, active suspension, race starts, etc in a well-priced package that has cost us $$$ to add on aftermarket. I think it's a valid gripe as we've all discussed how similar the R is to the S i.e. still uses stock rearsets, etc.

You're probably right; Ducati did missed the mark with the "R". It is too close to the "S" & "TRI". IMO, they should have waited a bit longer and added the skyhook suspension and all of the bits from the DP catalog to create a greater separation from the "S". But I digress, the HP4 will be an outstanding performer no doubt, but like previous S1k's I can't get past those headlights.

TricoloreSF- you got it nailed what i ment 100%. You get everything you could want with the complete package HP4, where i the 1199 rider have just purchased rear sets, CF parts, dont have heated grips, hard to change the linkage by yourself from p to f, need a pro to set up the suspension, and still have to buy an exhaust which makes the bike LESS powerful. Not to mention all the recalls. I guess thats the hidden Ducati value I have been hearing about.

PS the pictures of the two presidents is awesome.

let me jump in here, monica has never been a president of italy, and angela, well she's just a puppet like barack and all the others :D

talking of the HP4 you might better refer to this famous german actress in a certain genre:

"gina wild"

+1+1+1 and I couldnt give a toss if the Beemer had titanium rods, valves, fuel tank and carbon fibre frame and weighed 350lb with 250bhp and cost 15K. It will never have the X factor that the Pani has. That is priceless. ...... rearsets or not lol:D

because I'm sick of driver/riders of over-rated sport cars (=BMW) to dump .... on our Italian products...fair enough?

I don't know how some of you think the HP4 looks like a mess. It looks badass and I bet given the chance every single one of you would own one if money were no object.

The pani looks great as well. Unfortunately most of us can only afford one bike and as soon as you buy it you have to talk .... about the one you didn't buy to make yourself feel better.

Don't worry, happens with owners of all bikes not just ducati.

Just get what you like and appreciate the plethora of cool bikes you have to choose from.

Looks are in the eye of the beholder, now maybe if they had stuck on an endurance style single headlight or something, it would have looked cool to me.

As it stands, I still prefer the simpler colour scheme of the Red/White model, rather than this MaxPower stickered up effort.

So, not dumping on the competition at all ..... just expressing my honest opinion, similar to what I have with the 1199R for example.

They both have their desire, that's for sure. The Panigale is more from a looks/sound perspective for me. The BMW seems to be everything else so in the end I suppose whichever desire wins your heart will be the right choice. I tend to agree with the OP in that the smaller price point of the BMW with everything you get just seems lopsided when compared to Ducati. My owner's manual for my 18k Diavel was in a Ziplock bag. I love the bike but felt a little less than taken care of in the support/CS experience.

hmmm... not sure if this assessment is entirely correct.
From what I've read here most ducasti are more than capable of owning both.
Down under it's only another 25k-ish less if you have the gift of the gab ;)

I believe your assessment is correct.

Quite a few Italian 4-wheeled stablemates knocking around, which are always nice to see lurking out of focus behind an 1199 :)
