Hey all, I know several of you have owned both Ducatis and the S1000RR. I’m considering trading in my 21 V2 for a 22 RR (probably the S with M package.) I’m pretty torn however because the Panigale is so beautiful and I’m 100% happy with it so far. I’ve just always wanted the BMW also. Keeping both plus my Harley will have me in trouble with the boss! Looking for your opinion of this would be a good move or will I be disappointed? Thanks!

One of my previous bikes was an S1000RR and I have ridden a few different V2s and V4s, and now have a 22' V4S on the way.. so maybe I'm biased here. It really comes down to personal opinion and what you're intending to use the bike for. I'd honestly say just stick with the V2.

The S1K is a great! I really can't fault it apart from my opinion that it lacks soul and character compared to the Ducatis. Riding around on a Panigale just feels immensely special, even when going slow. They're exotic and unique and something you can stare at for hours on end, but you really can't say that about the BMW.

I also find that casual to moderately paced street riding on a V2 (or even V4) is so much more enjoyable than on the S1K since the inline 4 engine in the BMW wants to *scream*, so cruising around at low to mid RPMs just feels wrong for it. It's like an old V10 F1 car just going through the pit lane at low RPMs - knowing it wants to scream makes me feel guilty not constantly taking it to redline. Yet on a V2 or V4, I can listen to the engine purr right along at any RPM or throttle input and enjoy it. Meh.. maybe I'm weird.

It also depends on what you're using the bike for, though. As a daily commuter in hot weather, I can see the BMW winning on comfort and heat. If you are dying for more top end power and your primary riding style is setting land speed records on highways, maybe the BMW is for you! Do you spend any time on track?

P.S - Post some pics of your V2

Thanks for the great response. That is a lot of what I figured to be true. I live in Hawaii so it's mostly commuting (in the heat) for limited ranges (small island). There is no track here. You're completely right about the passion of the Panigale. That's what I'm struggling with. I imagine the BMW will be superior in most technical aspects but it don't think it will draw all the stares, thumbs up and shakas I get at every red light! I think I'll still test ride one and give it some thought. It's absolutely just a want and not a need. Thanks again!

Id say keep the V2 as well, the S1000 is a very nice bike with good looks but inline 4's have a certain character that could be described as efficient, and its German so it makes that a bit worse! The R1 OTOH I could live with!

Thanks Paul.

That's a good point.. if you're going to take the inline 4 plunge, at least do it with an R1M. Those things sound incredible!

If you ride an S1000RR, I'm sure you'll like it.. but it's just not the same. The "new toy" high will quickly wear off and you'll find yourself thinking of the V2's beauty. Clearly the answer is to just own both!

Honestly, I would have traded my V4S one a few months back if my local BMW dealer network didn't suck. I love that display and the OEM heated grips and cruise control for a street bike are a must at that price point.
