BoosterPlug Ducati 1199 Panigale / R / S - RevZilla
The BoosterPlug is a plug-and-play device that is supposed to stabilize enrichment of the fuel and air mixture in different ambient temperatures to trick the computer into "thinking" the ambient air temperature is lower than the actual readings, making the ECU enrich the injected mixture by a certain amount, resulting in improved "driveability."

Claimed benefits include:

  • Improved and softer throttle response when rolling the throttle on-off
  • Enrichment of air/fuel mixture when you open the throttle will improve acceleration
  • Cures the jerky low speed running that is typical for modern lean burn engines
  • Stronger and more reliable idle
  • Reduced popping in your aftermarket exhaust on engine braking

I have not but I just read up on it a bit. It says you have to drill a hole and insert this into the air breather box. You would have to drill through the frame on the pani for that I think.

Yes.

We were given one for a moto guzi, and a 16 BMW. The bikes pictures on his website ares my buddies.


It worked and helped his bikes quit popping on deceleration, cleaned it up a hair.


If your always on the gas it wont help, but when my buddy got his new bike he was happy to throw it on, and keep it on.

The indicate that one merely has to take off the front fairing and plug the BoosterPlug into the AIT sensor.
Literally, it appears to be plug and play as soon as you can put the fairing back on.
 
I just installed the Boosterplug on my 1199 Panigale. The install was a bit of a pain, but once I got the fairing off things went quickly - plug one end of the unit into the AIF connector in the nose of the bike, and the other end into the existing connector wire. Route the sensor cable near the air ducts. Reinstall fairings, done.

First impressions: the rough-running at low RPMs is gone! The Boosterplug does help throttle response and acceleration. I only rode a mile around the house, but I could easily notice the smoother fueling.

Caveats

* I noticed the engine sounded different (like the valves were noisier) at idle. I wasn't wearing ear plugs like I normally do, so it could just be my imagination.
* The external air temperature reading on the dash now reads lower than normal. I expected this, so no big issue.

All in all, I am pleased. This is a good, economical alternative for people who don't want to go the more costly (albeit more capable) aftermarket tuning route to get their bike running better.

Cool upgrade. How much did the temperature reading drop by?

Please keep us posted of your further experiences.
 
From what I have read on other forums, all it does is "trick" the bike's ECU into running the bike on a different A/F map. I can understand that it could make the bike run differently/maybe better under some conditions, but I find it hard to imagine that it would be optimal under the wide range of conditions the bike gets subjected to. A PowerCommander properly tuned or running Autotune would be far better in my opinion.
 
Why would I do this? I enjoy the popping and banging down through the gears! :D
 
The Boosterplug drops the air temp reading by 20C or 35F. So to get the true reading, just add this back to the number shown on your dash.

One interesting side effect, is that the ICE / cold temp warning may show up on the dash if the air temps drop below 75F. Just another signal that the Boosterplug is working. :)

I went on a long ride ... canyons, interstates, and city streets. The bike accelerates more smoothly and is more enjoyable. The power is less like an "on / off" switch, particular to the 1199. It builds steadily from low RPMs, much nicer and easier to manage with your wrist.
