I was about to give the Metzeler M7RR's a swing. Let me ask before I try them..

Steve - Your honest thoughts about them in terms of street grip compared to the SP's and any rain action yet?

JHTmcrider - How does the middle wear on the highway? Rain Action?

ilmostro - Rain action and does the rounder profile you talked about make the bike less aggressive in turn in as you see?

Thanks fellas..

My bikes usually never see rain action unless I get caught out in the rain mid-ride.

I didn't notice a dramatic difference in the turn-in compared to the Pirellis.

I'm still spanking my buddies through the canyons that are on Q3's, Michelin PP 2CT, and a slower riding buddy on a Daytona 675R on Supercorsa SP V2.

It's probably the bike and not the tires...

I really want to try a set of Metzeler Racetec RR, but they're stupid expensive to source in the states.

Just FYI; some nice onboard time getting to know the RS10 at THill courtesy of Dave Moss, complete with running commentary. From easy scrub-in laps to A pace, 37 minutes worth in 3 videos. Haven't watched them all, but enough to get that A) he loves the front, and B) I think I see why they developed the rear more in the R version that's not out in the US (yet). The latter point probably not too relevant for street use, but more of a track issue. Note the geometry issues he talks about relating to the rear are relative to the R10's he had his RSV4 set up for prior to testing the RS10's, and not general comments.

Update... One day at Cota and these tyres are pretty badly worn...Will post pics later when I have chance.... Grip is phenomenal ... but you pay the price....

Given the price and feedback, I think these are one of the best value tires for street riding/weekend rides.

For track days I might spend more and get something with better traction+Wear better suited for our bike's HP/TQ

(I am missing my Aprilia RS250 and its weak 65 HP, never was too worried about tire wear even on track days )

Would want to crash a $20K bike while trying to save $200 on tires :)

I think the English call it "Penny wise, pound foolish"

these tires come stock on the R1 and we shredded a set in half a day at COTA when breaking the bike in so I don't think they are the greatest track day tire.

if you want a dual purpose tire at that price point the Q3's are hard to beat, i ran them for a couple of track days and with the TC set at 2 and had no issues putting down some decent track times.

Agreed...Very disappointed in the longevity/wear rate... Not buying again...

The BT003RS was a pretty short-lived tire as well, so I wasn't expecting to get as much life out of the RS10's as I got from say, Q3's. Mine are seeing street-only use, so it'll be interesting to see how they hold up in that environment; I'll be sure to share it. When this set's gone, I'll likely put some S20 Evo's on it to get me through to Spring. Those last as long as the Q3's or better, have plenty of grip for the street and come in a 200/55 rear. Have been through a few sets of Q3's, and while they have been the general no-brainer choice, bang for the buck sportbike tire (as were the Q2's), on an 1199 they do affect the TC more than I'd like. I gather the 1299's TC can adapt to different tire sizes though, so maybe that's a non-issue there.

Follow up on wet tarmac with the RS10.

Went riding up Angeles Crest couple of weeks ago after a pretty good downpour couple days before and I didn't know it would be still wet and misty.

It was about 46 degrees on the display, the time I was there (7am) and the ground was wet in most areas with dampness in areas with some sun shining down.

The RS10 performed like a champ. Built up heat slowly at a leisurely pace, since fog and wet ground doesn't build confidence at all. Tires gripped well and I'm sure they'll do well in the rain.

Since I've had it mounted and put in several hundred miles I dropped the front pressure to 31psi and 29 for the rear.

I was getting some mild cold tearing at the rear with 31psi and lowering the pressure had cured the issue.

Seeing some of the postings for rapid wear on the track I'll have to keep these to the streets and mount something different for track duty. So far, I feel these are great for the street for the performance to value ratio.

different tires work for different people. When MotoGP went to control tires, it really caught Ducati out - the frameless Desmosedici really needed different tires to work with its different center of gravity.

I thought I was a Michelin man for years. Then I discovered Pirellis, and it was like having ... without a condom for the first time - I could feel EVERYTHING.

I'm sure much of it is psychological, but it also simplifies things for me. The Monster gets Diablos. The Multi gets Angel GTs. The Pani gets Supercorsas. All are happy.

Just some road use wear shots from this weekend playing around a bit down in the N.GA mountains. Spirited pace, but nothing too committed or sustained - too many GHP's circulating to have any serious fun out. Was running 31 PSI cold, with ambient temps in the mid-70's. These have around 850-900 miles on them so far, a lot of it at cruising pace. Thinking pressure needs a bit of attention, and I have a small rebound problem from the looks of it, which isn't surprising since I'm running the damping on the loose side for compliance on crappy roads. Gunk on the wheel is dust from testing ADV capability. Rain mode and gravel work pretty well together...
