First I'd like to say that 1)I'm not a conspiracy guy and 2) I'm not sure I believe this but:

I heard from my import guru here in Toronto that has already ridden the 1199 in Italy and has friends at the factory and every connection under the sun with all the aftermarket companies...

"The 1199 will be dead very soon"...These were his words. I said come on youre joking and he went on a rant on how not one of his suppliers or manufacturers are tooling for add-ons and that the factory stopped or never started production and that if you went to the factory for a tour they wont even show you the 1199 production line...like its a secret.

So I press him on all this and he said basically the WSBK team cant get it to work and that Bayliss "blew it apart" or something when fitted with race spec engines and stuff...The frame wont work and the thought is that some other kind of frame or space-frame needs to be engineered.

I hope its all just speculation but he did seem to be pretty sure. Guess he's seen alot of bikes over the years and NEVER has seen NO activity in the aftermarket...

I still dont believe it to be honest and think its just a real slow prodution and/or problems with supply of parts or something...But if the chassis wont work for the race team that would be an issue wouldnt it???

So, either gonna be a cracker, or a super collectible :)

.. but I seriously doubt the latter.

LMAO. You should try introducing your friend to the internet so he's not so in the dark.

That was the talk in October or so. Things have changed a lot since and there's no reason to pay much attention to naysayers. Apparently NASA never sent people to the moon either, or so they say

When I signed my base model in November, the salesperson told me that delivery would be in May, maybe late April if we were lucky. So far that's pretty much in line with reality.

Come Labor Day, all that'll be left of the big wait is a distant memory and a few anecdotes.

Cheers

What a joke. I was in the factory a month ago. Read my topic on that. I saw dozens of Panigales being built. I walked along the production line. My Pani has just been delivered to my dealership. Getting it ready now with some parts, full Termi and more. I was told the US version will have less horsepower due to CA emissions restrictions. Not sure what I must believe on that. Saw different crates with engines for US and European bikes at the start of the line.

I love it when people join a forum to post bad rumors they heard 6 months ago, when they can Google the facts for themselves in about 5 minutes.

I've had about 4 people tell me that they don't want to buy the Panigale because of the belt maintenance.

I can tell you now...The Troy Bayliss bit did not happen, he has only got great things to say about the bike.

A new Ducati superbike comes out only every 5 years or so.. Ducati has millions of dollars of future income riding on this bike.. There is no way that they are going to come out with something that wont work.. For two weeks many journalists from around the world rode the hell out of it in Abu Dhabi, every one of them has come back saying things like "this may be the best sportbike of all time" and "better than an RSV4 and S1000RR". Bayliss has said that no other streetbike will touch it in terms of perfromance, the man is not stupid, he knows that if he tells lies about the bike it would only serve to tarnish his own reputation as a straight shooter. I think whomever told the OP that the "1199 would be dead soon" needs to re-evaluate that statement.

Relax boys I'm with you guys on this. I told you I didnt believe it either. Sounds weird that the guy was telling me this after he rode it and all. Everyone likes to start up rumours I guess but this seemed pretty far fetched. Not really sure why hes saying this stuff as hes pretty well respected around here on Duc stuff. Anyways back to original topic....

Hey .. I understand the belt maintenance thing .. but that's one of the reasons (not a major one, I know) why I'm buying it. My own belt maintenance has been woeful in recent years so I figured:

Light bike + Fattening Rider = little bit better than Fatter bike + Fattening Rider

As you said, more reason TO buy it.

Do you THINK (operative word) that Ducati would release a bike so fundamentally flawed that it:
- wouldn't hold together
- couldn't be ridden; or
- wouldn't even be delivered?

Or do you just regurgitate any old .... that comes out of someone's mouth?

Oh yeah... superfly... eat a dick.

Oh yeah and one more thing...Rhino, go .... yourself.

Lol - my money is on him regurgitating any old .... that comes out of someone's mouth!

superfly998 - he's either pulling your chain or just a bit special.

Shame to cancel, found out last week, mine arriving end April, early may. Apparently it's already been put in the shipping container. However I'm sure the US and Europe have higher priority.

I've already been offered AED 10,000 (approx US $ 2,725/-) on top of the asking price if I give up mine, and wait for the next batch. Said no to that, but hey by all means give up your bike and lose your deposit aswell most likely! LOL

Seriously guys....I was told Mid to late April by my dealer (who dont have a great reputation for customer service) when I put my deposit down in Dec (I live in a fairly isolated city in Australia) and then that moved to mid May at the beginning of the year. My bike is now on a truck on its way across the desert and I have the VIN number.

So one month difference on a bike ordered 6 months ago, brand new model and from the other side of the world....not bad.

If you can't wait then you clearly don't understand the brand and wouldn't appreciate it anyway, which makes me think you have more money than sense.

Only ducati can bring out such passion in people. We have the most loyal following of haters. I LOVE it.

PS. The wait and anticipation is half the fun.
