CBE Thermostat Housing Replacement

I just got done fitting the CBE thermostat replacement housing along with Samco hoses in an attempt to head off thermostat housing failure with my '18 V4S. It is definitely a nice part as it is machined from a single piece of billet.

I find it interesting that the CBE will always allow some coolant exiting the heads to bypass the radiator and head straight to the water pump inlet, much like the stock thermostat housing does when the thermostat is cold. This is very different to the Febur thermostat bypass, which is just a pipe from the heads to the upper radiator hose.

Anyone have any experience running the CBE on the track? @MaverickiB have you had a chance to try yours out yet? I won't get to try it out until I head to NCM in a week, but I will be able to log some data on it when I do.

I think they do that to increase the amount of time the coolant that does go the radiator, has in the radiator - dwell time : )

What I found interesting was that my bike (v2) has a passage in the case to allow coolant to go from the pressure side back to the pump inlet. Does the V4 have that too? Anyone know why that would be required?

if the impeller is spinning in air then loaded with liquid, the spike in load can break things. designing a pump that operates well at such a wide rpm range would be challenging. dumping the excess volume at high rpm probably keeps the pressure reasonable to get the optimum flow rate.

My pump has a plastic impeller (and was driven by plastic gears) and it is mounted kinda high but I don’t get how it was ever gonna suck air? Not at initial fill and definitely not while running. How could it?

Lol. Yeah. The whole system is strange to me. With a t-stat that is normally open why is there a second bypass from the cases to the rad? Why does it go to the cold side of the rad? And then there’s this bypass that’s gotta be for in case it sucks air right but I can’t see how it would suck air? I guess if the motor got really hot as the t-stat prolly isn’t a perfect seal.

I want to block both off and have a simple system I can tune with impeller diameter

Yeah Don it won't matter anyway your motor is not even in a situation to ever run cracked case, missing pieces, no exhaust and no mechanical resources guaranteed failure.

How many national championships have you won pal?

Anyone here have a sleeve puller I can borrow?

So here's the thing ........ Don I think that broken motor is beyond needing any kind of puller. Don't ask the techs at Newport Ducati for any guidance they are fed up with all your annoying crap. You're good at flapping the jaw probably best to write a book on growing weed.

Naw I can make all that stuff easy (hard to believe Duc gets $650 for one of those)

I just need to measure the hooks and see what the springs do

Yeah by the looks of that piston it's beyond needing any pulling. Isn't that case cracked? I don't think anyone that has won any level of championships is living in any 400 sq ft apartments Don.

So NO national championships

NO local championships

Lot’s of runner up’s perhaps??????

The precision of the machine work and complexity of the puller look similar to what you just made, should be pretty simple

That’s quite an accomplishment and congratulations are in order. I’m sure no one here has a “National Championship” trophy. To be on the list with Andrew Hines, Eddie Krawiec, Angelle Sampey is a big deal

Yeah he has it all figured out.

NHRA is not the only national sanctioning body for motorcycle drag racing. Smoked

And keep making fun of my engine stand. Make fun of my puller. Go right ahead. There’s a bunch of us that make fun of guys that buy a $10,000.00 tool kit for one or 2 rebuilds too : )

Lemme get this thing half way tuned - you got head up too sucka

Don won the 2005 NMRA Top Gas class. And like he said, he did beat Matt Smith but it wasn’t THE Matt Smith who races NHRA Pro Stock. Ya left that little detail out but hey all good man, nice work and hey, not making fun of your tools Don, it’s all very entertaining.
