Cheap Bling

Even though the Pani is in a high price segment, some parts are made in a very cheap way. What I really don't like is that a lot of aluminium parts on my 2012 tri are not anodised or protected in another way against corrosion.

Another thing I never liked is gunmetal-finished surfaces on vehicles (I am not sure whether this is the correct term in English). It's very sensitive to scratches and the steel below easily starts to rust.

So I decided to do something :)

A typical example are the ABS sensor rings.
You need a file, some sand paper and a bit of patient to remove all brows resulted from the production process (blanking).
Afterwards you but them into rust removal fluid to get rid of the residual black surface (I take this green hammerite solution, it already helped my dozens of times).

Find a galvanisation shop near you. I decided for hard chrome plating, which is cheap and the surface becomes very durable.

All in all, the whole thing cost me 70 bucks (Switzerland is rather expensive :( ).

I do not expect to have problems with the hall sensors, but I did not install the rings yet.
I'll keep you guys posted when they are installed.

Very nice! It looks like techno-bling because it highlights one of the coolest parts of the bike - the highly developed/effective electronics.

Finally my new wheels and rotors arrived and I had the chance to install the ABS rings.
As expected plating has no influence on the ABS system.

What rotors are those and where could I get a set? Can you post up a shot of the rear?

very nice job, do you have any complete pics of your bike?

Sorry... I made only a few pictures during my work on the bike. It's still a long way before being "finished", I still have lots of ideas how to improve bling factor and reduce weight. My biggest problem here in Switzerland is to find a good company for the paint job.

if you don't mind driving to Stuttgart, I can get you the contact of a buddy (he rides a Tricolore). He's a professional painter with his own company and does excellent work.

his website is not very representative, but he has done many bikes... http://www.tammelackierung.de/index.html

Stuttgart.... AUTOBAHN! Why should I mind?!? :D
Maybe I should replace the 41 sprocket back to OEM before going there!
I am looking for somebody that has both the skills and the artistic streak. I do not want big titted squaws, lonely wolfs and sculls on this bike :)
I'll PM you....

Nice bike for sure. Those SICOM dealies are expensive, I'll have to put that lower on my list :)

he put on my other friend's GSX-R750 track bike a friggin clean red and white paintjob, just like the MotoGP D16RR ... The guys at ducati4U at the Lausitzring didn't know what they were looking at ;)

Autobahn?
i had a girlfriend once in Konstanz and made the A81 ride in 59 minutes. That is door 2 door from Schönaich (BB) on my RSV1000 ...

Did i mention it was o a Friday afternoon? :D

Gecko, I know we discussed this by PM a while back, but after looking at your photos, since you said they were chrome plated, did you have them zinc or nickel plated instead, as the finish does not look like chrome from your pictures?

Your're lucky I'm in Slovenia at the moment, rest of the time in the Balkans, always something wrong when you want a job done in the Balkans, wrong shade, dust in the clear coat, finding someone to stainless weld without sort of got it right BUT....
I the end I always land up buying the kit and doing it myself!

Nice bike,,, good job!
