Hi All.

Today I wanted to start the engine of my 1199 after longest keeping in cold environment. Average temp was always -1..0 *C but I had the maintenance for battery and the current was good (13V).

When I turned on the key the dashboard informed me about cold temperature (ICE Logo). So I ignored the message but when I tried to start engine it was impossible, looks like ECU blocks it.

Is that correct? Can I disable it?

The warning light is only a warning that the outside temperature should indicate ice. That should not stop the engine from turning over. What does it do when you press the start button ? Screen die ? Starter try to turn over ?

Maybe check battery connections ?

When I press the button, the starter tries to turn over the engine and at the same time the display indicates two red lights in the top of dashboard and main display goes out briefly. That all happens.

I can check the connections but I am sure it's ok because current is good and I have covered these by special spray before.

P.S. I can try to record short video if it helps.

Tighten the connections and check them. The dash should not go out.

Good luck

One more thing. I also tried to start the engine when Ducati Battery Maintainer was connected and result was the same. I think it excludes the issue with battery connections because it connected through connector which under seat located.

Correct me if I am wrong.

1 degree ..... you say..... I would rather be without my testicles than live in a place with temps like that!

Flat batt bud the cells simply could not take the cold

Agreed with Captain Greg.

Wanted to start with terminal connections, its the most simple solution, then the next would be a completely dead battery. They are a consumable item. People put a lot of faith in them, but most suck.

@bearacer Now might be your opportunity to put in a lithium battery :)

NOLA

@Captain Greg. Ha-ha-ha but now is winter. I will not ride, just want to check the everything is OK or not.

@NOLA. I have replaced the stock battery this summer. Now I use LITHIUM BATTERY X2 ALIANT.

I will follow your recommendations but I want to repeat once again even with direct connection to charger I can not turn over the engine.

Check the battery manual. It must work well under temp. range about -30..-18 *C. I may not believe but here is only 0 degree.

Is your charger the type that has a setting specifically to output enough amperage to start a bike ? Most chargers will not start a bike. Its a trickle charger, very low output. Some trickle chargers have a setting that boosts their output to start the bike.

Dont go on a wild goose chase for some electronic or exotic reason it wont start. I am gonna go with simple reasons first. Battery.

Respectfully my worthless opinion

are you saying you have a lithium battery right now? Turn the key and leave the lights on for a bit (30-45 seconds) this allows the lithium battery to "prime".

i had to do that in cold weather with the 1198 when i had a lithium battery.

It's a pity but I did it - not helped me.

If you're running a lithium battery now im pretty sure its the battery needing to be warmed up. I ran a Shorai on my 1098 and that thing did the same thing when it got cold. When its really cold i literally had to turn my bike on(just before crank) and just leave it with the head lights on to get the battery warmed up, i had to do this for almost 20 minutes once before there was enough power to crank.

The panis headlights dont turn on unless the bikes running so this might take a little longer but turn your bike on just before cranking it and let it sit in the on position for a while. If it auto shuts off then turn the key off then back to the on position and repeat a couple more times. Each time you do this you should notice your voltage going up as the battery gets warmed up. After maybe 10 minutes i would try to crank it but if you feel its weak stop and repeat the on off cycle a couple more times. Sorry if this is confusing, let me know what doesnt make sense and ill try to explain better. Lithium batteries are beyond insane if youre looking to shed pounds but in the colder weather they can get finicky.

Thanks all.

I have recorded the video to demonstrate what happens exactly, not so like I described before. Let me share it today later.

@Phl. No, I did not try it. But I tried to rotate rear wheel and each time when I do it, the fuel pump starts to operate shortly (the same when you turn the key).

Well thank fuc it's winter.....at 1 degree it's not a summer I would want to expierince.

Just by the way in Cape Town on a cold winter day we see temperatures of some 7 degrees.

I don't ride any of my bikes when the OAT drops below around 24C I like to wear just a T-shirt that shows my pecs and biceps :p it pulls chics and the Ducati helps :)

I did not try waiting too long. It seems unthinkable but I will follow your advice. Thank you.
